EVENT CANCELLED - Sorry to say, but for a variety of reasons: car issues, health issues, road construction issues; this event is being cancelled. I apologize to any of you who may be inconvenienced by this.

Here's the deal. The original idea was a low key weekend featuring a hosted dinner on a beach Friday evening, followed by a Saturday drive on the roads near Pt. Townsend, including a lunch stop along Hood Canal. The day would conclude with a dinner at the hotel. Sunday would be a getaway day with the possibility of a quick, six mile drive to Nordland for ice cream and some casual memorializing of our old friend Nord, who passed away ten years ago.

The whole-weekend idea was because Pt. Townsend is fairly remote from the greater Seattle area, requiring a 2-3 hour trip. A number of people indicated they were interested in just coming for the drive on Saturday, which is great.

To accommodate everyone, we'll still host dinner on Friday for those who want to get a jump on the weekend. The drive Saturday will start at 10:30 AM from the hotel in Port Hadlock.

FRIDAY, 9/13/24 - 6:00 PM
Complimentary Mexican dinner hosted by KELTY360 on the beach at Kala Point, a private residential community. I'll provide food and soft beverages. BYOB. Please RSVP by PM for directions and to get a head count for dinner.

For those spending the weekend, we're using The Old Alcohol Plant in Port Hadlock as base of operations. It's an historic old building with hotel, full service restaurant and lounge. It's perched above the Pt. Hadlock marina with a fantastic view of Pt. Townsend Bay. Website: Old Alcohol Plant

SATURDAY, 9/14/2024 - 10:30 AM
Depart from the Old Alcohol Plant hotel parking lot for a drive on the back roads near Pt. Townsend, leading to lunch in Brinnon on Hwy 101, alongside picturesque Hood Canal. Return on back roads to Pt. Hadlock. Dinner for those staying on, at the Old Alcohol Plant.

SUNDAY, 9/15/24
Getaway for those staying with the opportunity of a short drive to the Nordland General Store for ice cream and Nord memories.

Participants will be responsible for all food and lodging except for the Friday dinner.

Any questions or suggestions can be made on this thread which will be updated as necessary. Please let us know if you're coming.

I'd like to join in, but will have to see how the weekend shapes up as it gets closer. I'll likely be in TX that week until Friday afternoon, and have A/X Saturday morning. Fingers crossed for Saturday afternoon and possibly Sunday.

If you haven't been to Port Townsend before, it was supposed to be "Seattle". Why there are so many grand looking buildings in the downtown:

The cost of building a railroad all the way up the peninsula sealed the deal.

Yup:

"somebody noticed that Mount Walker was there. They found there was really no way to get around this, and that was the end of it" ("Railroads Gone ... ")

Also something to do with sail powered ships going away. Cool history.
