Verify the colors/stripes of the wires. The factory chassis harness color wiring schematic is here: https://bowlsby.net/914/WiringHarnesses/doc...4_MAIN_1972.pdf

The factory chassis harness color wiring schematic is here: https://bowlsby.net/914/WiringHarnesses/doc...4_MAIN_1972.pdf I did find that some cars had the wiring for a low brake fluid sensor although it was never offered. I also found a picture in a 1970 owners manual of the wires going to the cap. I know one owner who got a cap for a 944 and wired it up using the unused warning light spot in the combo gauge. |

Will look in the wiring diagram for a potential answer. |

It looks like a brown/white wire ... does your horn work? There is a BR/WH from the steering column switch to the horn Relay (at the 85 spot)- not sure if that's it but look at items #26 and #51 in the wiring diagram. No idea why it would be over by your reservoir though ..

I notice this car doesn't currently have the wiper delay relay - could it have been that?

My 72 has the same. Phantom brake fluid sensor. I put shrink wrap on mine and let it be.

OK, then what about the parking brake contact and the seatbelt warning lights that illuminate at the combo gauge - those wires are BR/WH and I think they tie into each other. .. well, also the master cylinder has a BR/WH wire too as well, that lights at the same place in the combo gauge (+ an all brown one) for the 'Brake warning light switch'. That might make more since from where those wires are. |

In Porsche wiring colors, brown is ground, then add a white strip and it means a ground wire that provides ground going thru some sort of contact switch i.e horn switch, m/c brake, door contacts

Master cylinder sensor already has the cable going to it. These cable seem to be working with the brake warning light but I am not sure about this. I will look at this when I will be back around the car. I am chasing some issues with my brake light warning reason why I hope this broken wire could be the solution to my problem. |

Just to verify, does the dash light come on when the E-brake handle is up? .. and can you make out whether the wires going to your M/C are original? |

[/quote] Yes the Brake warning light is the dash comes on and flashes when E-brake handle is up (when there is a bulb!). It won't go out when e-brake handle is down. E-brake switch is working (validated with multimeter). Wires going to MC seem very original. |

Hold on a second.
@PaIsa , can you explore this branch wiring a little bit further? Find out where the wiring goes and what it connects to? Is it part of the main chassis harness or a separate shorter harness?" I ask because I have a couple of simple, short NOS harnesses, somehow related to the brakes, and your wires may be what they are. The two wire version is for 1970-73 914s. "wiring harness for emergency light switch brake 2-pole." The one wire version is for 1974-76 914s. "additional cables for emergency light switch single pole." I have yet to understand where these are installed (although they appear to connect to the master cylinder) or what they do....could they be for an optional brake fluid level sensor as previously mentioned? I own both versions and can supply better photos/circuitry diagram if needed let me know. See photos of the two harnesses to see if they are like your wiring. Attached image(s) |

The wires in my photo are coming off a main wire harness that seems to come from the dash and goes to the front of the car on the driver side (I am not close to the car so running on memory)
My MC has the 2 poles switch and is properly cable with 2 wires that is running back toward the bottom of the dash. I have yet to follow the MC wires to confirm where they are going to. I will dig this a bit further once I get back to where the car is which will be later this month. |
