With time to debrief on last weeks shakedown, I am looking to try a change to staggered tire dim. Wonder if anyone is comfortable sharing their experience.
Currently have run 225/45R15's all round on 7inchers and 225/50R15 on 7's front and 8's rear. But all my running is on older tires so difficult to draw conclusion. Transitioning from DE to road racing. Basic set up: E-Production, less than 150hp, wide fender, welded diff, 916 brakes. 911 front. 2008 lbs car Appreciate any insight. Thanks, |

I always kinda thought it depended on motor out put
I’ve got a 2.0/6 so not a ton of torque or high horsepower I’ve never run staggered Always raced (20 years of wheel to wheel and dozens of different race tires) On not staggered. 7 inch rims/225 front and rear Car is very balanced and I fine tune the handling by adjusting the rear sway bar when needed. I think a big motor with 300 foot pounds might need rear grip coming out of a corner. But don’t feel like I do Wet with fuel and no driver around 1800lbs I see a lot of 911s with staggered tires on the track But they are not 50/50 balance. And usually bigger motors with more power |

I ran 245 Fr, and 275 Rr on 16x8 Fr, and 16x9 Rr (3.4L twin plug). Just about the right amount of tire for my car weight (2050) and HP (290 RWHP).

With my low-ish hp, I am debating to go 205/50r15 front on 7s and 225 /45r15 rears on 8’s. Vs 225/45r15 all around. This is primarily for my home track WaterfordHills. Tight and twisty

For a low hp car, and tight and twisty track (streets of willow for me) i always liked a good 205/50r15 on all 4 corners. Balance is right for a non staggered setup, and low power means you dont have to worry about overpowering the rear tires. I ran in a class that limited treadwear to 200, so the Bridgestone re71 fit the bill well. I also prefer a bit of oversteer vs under, so it depends on your comfort level too…

On my 3.0 6 track car with 250hp. I run 205/50s on 7x15 in front. 225/50 on 8" in back. Toyo RR. I have to be gentle rolling on the gas coming out of turns, otherwise it's fantastic!

I coached a 911 PCA guy that thought his car was the hots but was always slower. I looked around and the fast guys were running smaller tires. I asked my guy what his tire temperatures were, and he didn't know. We measured and he wasn't getting them up to temp. But he LOVED his big-ass tires and wide-ass wheels. I suggested go to smaller tires and told him he'd go faster. He refused. I wagered him the cost of the tires that he'd go faster so he relented...and he went faster. And his temps were closer to the tire manufacturer's suggested range (we made some adjustments to get him in there). It's not about "the stagger" it's about the grip on each end. And if you're not using the grip you have now - solidly within the recommend range of the tire manufacturer - then "staggering" tires ain't gonna help. Granted, they'll look cool though, parked there in the paddock... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Focus on the basics first. |

Talking about size...
The new C8 Vette put down a 35% SMALLER tire print than the outgoing C7. This is a MONSTER reduction in tire size! It works KICK ASS! And all the magazines reported "Better handling, but MUCH, MUCH better feedback from the car. Turned a car you had to "man handle around" into a flawless ballerina... "The sports car is back" was a common comment! In my book, that was the point that the Corvette went "Supercar"... |

I use 225/245 or equivalent on 8's and 9's for track, and a 215-ish vintage tire on 8's square for street/show. When I went from a modest 2.2 to the hotrod 2.7 it was a real handful as narrowbody with less rubber in back...

Great option, unfortunately looks like it has been discontinued by Hoosier.
