Hello!

As the owner of a '72 914-4, one of my favorite YouTube videos is this great walkaround of a 1972 914-4 with the appearance package; nearly the exact same car as mine, but lovingly kept in great shape by a single owner (Rex) who is in the video.

I'm curious about the firewall at the back of the engine compartment. What is mounted and wired there? My '72 does not have this, and I don't see it in the Johnson/Hussey book on authenticity.

Thanks!

Steve

P.S. Isn't Rex's car cool?

That's aftermarket...

Don't know what it is.
VR?
Ignition box?
Something that needs a large heat sink???

Neither car has the firewall insulation pad and both cars have exquisite firewalls!

Yeah, given Rex’s stress on originality in that video, I wonder what that is.

Based on the Johnson/Hussey book, it appears the firewall insulation wasn’t added until 1973.

Oops!

Sometimes my lack of 914 knowledge shows.

Thought they all had padding...

That's a big one to miss!
