Just to chime in, I've got an Optima Red Top and wasn't sure if I could put a standard battery tender on it so I bought the Optima maintainer/charger. It's been great. Just FYI, the battery tender shown in post #5 above has worked just fine with my Optima red-tops. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) |

Looking for a battery trickle charger recommendation. 1.25 Amp or 4. Amp best for winter storage on my 914? Price range? Tom in cold Michigan. Hey Tom: I'm also in Michigan. It's been a while since I needed to keep a battery charged over the Winter, but back in the day the least expensive trickle charger always worked fine for me. This 0.8A 12V unit is about $15 most places and sold with different brand names (Schumacher, Duralast, DieHard). I grabbed it at the local auto parts store. If you're like me, the car will only be put away for a few months. https://www.schumacherelectric.com/products...ery-maintainer/ This one has a long enough cable to fit in the rear trunk channel and feed out the back. My guess is this will be all I need for November to February lay-up. I just need to remember not to pull out of the garage with it plugged in (yeah, I did do that the other day--yikes!). Steve P.S. I hope to see you around the Mitten in your 914 when Spring comes. :-) |

Since then I bought the smaller charger like shown, i like the conditioning settings. I use both the tender and this optima chargers regularly. |
