The ignition harness and chassis harness are unique

72s also have the additional unused circuit for the brake fluid level warning.

@JamesM

Is that component #32 on the chassis harness schematic?

I have seen the brake reservoir wires on other year cars. I had a 70 owners manual that showed a picture if the cap with wires for low level warning.
I know an owner who used existing wires and put a light in the fuel tank gauge in an unused socket.

The 1972 model year 914 has some unique, anomalous features or parts not present on other model years. 1972 seems to be a transitional year for our cars.

Because of their rarity, some of these parts may be hard to find and potentially valuable to the right 914 owner, similar to 912E parts.

post a photo or describe those features or parts here.

Had one come up this week that I had forgotten about...

Some 72s came with a strut setup that used early ball joints but late rotors/calipers.

I don't see how that could work. The strut, rotor and caliper all have a different offset between early and late.

. @jamesm

Its a 72 thing.

Its out there and it works. Have a 72 sitting at PMB right now with that exact setup. Looking it over with Eric we think maybe it is an interim strut that makes it work but haven't really dug in.

One of my personal 72s was like this as well, completely threw me off 20 years ago when I first replaced one of the struts on it that got loose at the pinch bolt. Converted it to full late struts and balljoints.

Interesting

I checked a 71, 73, 74, and 75 car and none of the them had it. Don't have a 70 on hand at the moment to look.

Mine had that and I bought a reservoir to hook up to it. First time I have heard someone else mention this.

My wires were taped up just like the intermittent wiper relay wires were. Clearly a factory idea. Wonder about the motivations for using or not using the warning light.

Any details on the reservoir you used? - for other's with a '72 having this feature (I've got another one myself , but have not stripped back the tape in that area of the harness).
