I’d love to have one for the rear. That would be a nice chunk of weight off the back.

I run glass front and rear

Neither fit great

That 500 version is without the balsa
As is mine. Cheaper but not correct

One of the worse fitting hoods I’ve seen was my buddy’s real m471

On the car since factory build and 1-2 inch side gaps from the factory

If I had a real GT, I would celebrate the handmade nature of the car. On a tribute, it might just look unfinished.

I was going to do this, I collected your pics from a build thread but having the tub bare I accidently found out that the backend of my car is heavier than the front. Then add an engine, trans and suspension and I changed my mind on lightening anything up front. I'm still doing the through the hood oil cooler exhaust like your street car but it will be build with my steel hood. I do not have all the goodies up front like others do.

FWIW I came up with 44 pounds savings from just the two lids and the front springs. Pretty significant and also it's up high. I actually did the Getty lids in 2009 - damn time flies. They were unpainted raw amber f/g from 2009-11 then got painted.

Sitting in an airport one day, I penciled out about 300lbs that I could remove from a 914-4. Even with a stock engine, a 15% weight savings would make a significant difference in acceleration, braking and handling.

My car is under 2000lbs and i didn't really try hard to save weight.
And it has a full roll-cage.

And probably more than 50lbs in bondo.

Bernie told me that several people have told him they could sand the hood so you couldn’t see the fiberglass texture. He said that was the way Porsche made it and he was keeping it that way

When I built the race car in 2003 my cost/benefit formula for weight was 50$/pound

Making glass hoods an obvious choice at 500/600$ for 20plus pounds
How we got to 1815lbs wet with a /6 that has 19 quarts of oil in it
(5 gallon bucket of oil almost)

I took 500 lbs out of the chassis’s before I added the /6
Aluminum hardware in all non structural areas
Air craft wiring with thinner insulation
And went from an aluminum 2.0/6 To a mag 2.0/6 to save weight

It's easy to forget that back in the day the factory race program did not give a rats ass about showing those cars at a concours or in a museum.

Many of the original parts have a rather rough finish and often don't fit/align well.

@Maltese Falcon I drive FM311 often. Sounds like you have had work done at Lozano Brothers.
I’m wanting to add unfinished fiberglass with balsa wood mostly for the looks, I bought the car from D. Driver out of Reno NV. It’s a x track car, so not concerned about not being factory.

Absolutely... Lozano Brothers Porting; Ben, Armando and the crew are amazing engine builders !
Post pics of your project (red 914 in picture? ) when you get the f'glass hood installed.

100%
Factory pieces are thin, body shop wanted to flatten mine also.. No just scuff and paint... Getty ones are a bit thicker and are flatter for paint..
