The more often I do this the better. If I don't drive Marco, I at least try to let him run a few times a week. Besides, the oil leaks pretty much stop. Are you getting enough snow? I grew up in Rochester. |

No snow ... We are just not in the lake effect unless it drives straight down Seneca.

Yeah, not that we have it that cold over here, but i often forget to fire her up for months on end and she is usually not happy about it.
It's particularity bad when she sat long enough for the oil to drain out of the lifters. That noise hurts my heart. Regular exercise is good for both the car and the driver! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

I'll be starting mine up Friday for the last trip of the year. One more trip before the roads get salted till spring. Should be in the 20s and the car has no heat. Bracing! Will be headed up near Robs place on the Eastern Shore for the weekend. @beatnavy

Mine’s been having some work done on it by the meister in Germany. Going to pick it up Friday and drive it back. 400km… just before the real cold and snow starts Monday apparently…

We had a pipe go out in the street yesterday, they covered everything in salt! No snow and we still have salt!

Last few years there's been so little snow, and little corresponding brine/salt, that I've been able to drive the teener a fair amount through the winter. If that changes this winter she's staying inside. When I lived in Virginia I'd drive her to work in all kinds of weather. One day I was under the car and looked at a ball joint I'd replaced just one year early - totally rusted from the brine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hissyfit.gif) No more all weather driving.... |

Just remember, if you start it you need to get it up to running temperature before shutting off. Otherwise water and other nasty stuff (by-product of combustion) will gather in places like the crank case and exhaust.

Should I Winterize My Classic Car? Haggerty Insurance https://www.hagerty.com/resources/car-maint...ion-and-storage Interesting, I have always given mine a warm up every 2 months or so. Just to keep the belts pliable etc. mine are packed away for a good 6 months and I find nothing causes crankiness in cars more than letting them sit for too long. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) My 2.7 with 993 caps/lifters is similar. I try to drive my 914 monthly during the winter. If I can start every 3-4 weeks, never clatters. |

I'm lucky to have a heated a/c garage. So part of my winterizing that I used on my 993, cayman and now the 914 is not to close doors and hoods all the way so seals can relax and also rolled up socks under the windshield blade arms to keep wiper blades off the glass. 18 years on the 993 and all seals stayed as fresh as new. This is a summer shot but you get the picture. Mark

I ende dup not driving mine to the party this weekend - took the Jetta instead. Wanted heat! It was a good thing too. On the way home I noted that Maryland had already brined the HECK out of I83. Entire roadway was white from Baltimore all the way to the PA border. I guess they were worried about black ice or something with the cold snap, but I don't think it was wet at all.... Who knows, I'm just glad I did not have to drive the 914 over that crap. Zach |
