Horrible. Can’t imagine what people there are going through. Hoping things turn around for the better soon.

It’s very sad and devastating. I grew up in SoCal just north of LA. I know that area very well. I still have friends in that area that seem to be safe at this point. Material things are lost, but we still have our lives and our know how.

My condolences to everyone involved. 2025 is getting off to a really bad start in more ways than one. This is horrible & being an empath, I'm in a total state of shock. With all the horror & BS that's occurring now, my faith in God in being severely tested. The insurance companies won't pay up & the construction companies will try to rip everybody off. They don't care about the loss of life. It's all about a bunch of assholes who only care about $$$. Thank God for my 4 dogs & 21 horses. They're such a source of joy. Is is so sad that thousands of people have lost everything they had, except for the clothes on their backs. The videos have shown a complete catastrophe; the urban ares look like something from a bombed out WW2 city. Many classic cars were lost, too.

One of my friends home. All that is still there are metal items. Note the toolboxes. His brother lived a couple of blocks down and I am not going to ask him yet if his 89 911 Speedster was in his garage. Hopefully his P cars where at there building in Santa Monica. As I said to him on the start of fire, “this thing is getting real, real fast”

Hi Guys, The devastation of the fires in LA is unimaginable. So many people have lost everything and times like these really hammer home what's important in life...family, friends, pets and health. Of course, our cars add a lot of joy to our lives as well and I fear that many prized vehicles will be lost. I think I speak for everyone when I say "we're here for you". Please post and let us know if there's anything this community can do to help. Let's keep our LA friends in our prayers. My brother in law was lucky (Altadena Eaton Fire) his home was saved. Out of 12 neighbors’ homes 8 homes were saved on the cul-de-sac . Now my brother in law and a neighbor are staying to guard the empty homes from people going in. My cousin was not lucky his lost his home of 50 years, but he and his wife got out just in time. and are fine. Yes continue to pray for them and everyone else in California dealing with fires. National Guards are there also. |

We're in the SE corner of Brentwood literally blocks from evacuation zones. Our radar is up and we're anticipating an evacuation- eventually. The wind keeps shifting.
I'm a freelance cameraman and work frequently for 60 Minutes but haven't done a story like this in my backyard before. I've seen more than my share of devastation and covered chaos like this all over the world but the scale of this in a modern urban setting is stunning. We were out yesterday in Malibu and Altadena and it's just never-ending destruction. Given the topic of this forum and my interest in cars, some things stick out to me when on shoots like this. It doesn't diminish the "real" losses so many have suffered. The 911 is (was?) along PCH near Big Rock Beach and was most likely in the garage of a ocean-front home. This particular 911 has been posted a lot on social media but these photos are mine. I looked for a VIN without luck - it's obliterated. The what-I-believe-to-be Ferrari (308?) was near the Palisades Recreation Center as is the Mini. The heat that melted the Mini was from across the street...which tells you how hot things got. I've lived here 15 years - not very long in comparison to many - but I know my area pretty well. The devastation I've seen makes it really hard to get your bearings given the new reality of no familiar landmarks. It's simply amazing. Check out the work of an amazing team this Sunday on 60 Minutes... |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) This is heartbreaking. I grew up in LA county, the San Gabriel valley. I see the pictures but my mind is having a hard time accepting it. I’ve built in the village in Malibu, my head won’t even go there. I’m so sorry to all of you affected. Fire is scary God bless

And what becomes of all of toxic debris during the clean up that will last long after I’m dead? Can’t just shove it off barges into the Pacific. Not to mention the billions of lost property tax $. Those with intact fire insurance that will pay of mortgages for no longer existing structures will be homeless and broke. Millions of people are seriously fucked.

Those with intact fire insurance that will pay of mortgages for no longer existing structures will be homeless and broke. Both Fire and Earthquake insurance have been unavailable for most people here in CA for many years already. I remember i looked into both in 2017 when i bought my house here in the bay area and fire was already no longer available and earthquake was well north of $10k per MONTH. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) State Farm has kept me insured here in the Coachella valley CA. Takes a lot to get sand to burn I guess. I expected to lose it last year, didn’t happen. Even weirder is my house has burnt down once already. |

Holy shit!!! Liberty Mutual raised our rate astronomically, then decided to drop us. We then went with State Farm & they wanted an arm & a leg. We then switched to AAA with the CA Fair Plan supplement. So far so good. Sorry to hear about your house.

Blue dot is us, few days ago in the Hollywood fire at approx ½ mile from ignition point..
From the moment we noticed the first puffs of smoke and small orange glow...it grew in 5 minutes to the 50 yard line...definitely an accelerant and arson in play. The fire should have been carried (south) downslope into the residential area, as there were 40-50 mph s/w Santa Ana winds>>but the flame went in direction (against wind) of the accelerant (IMHO). I got the call + started in with pre-positioned hoses and in 20 minutes had Roof to grade level soak down . Repeated a few cycles, and wet shoes + levis actually comfy in the warm evening; got the evac text and boogied to a hotel. At some point brain kicks in, and you gotta give it up and get away from a hellscape. Neighborhood + me are lucky...but my heart + mind is broken for the rest of my Cali people suffering. |
