The lack of information is actually helpful there. That tells me the same cam is in it, probably stock. I wonder if they just had the rods laying around? I wonder what they set the compression at...

Yes , we kept the original cam and crank because of the fuel injection .I read somewhere unless your swapping out to carbs you should keep the original cam.I hope that was the correct decision increasing displacement to 2056. I have done nothing to the MPS other than cleaning and checking with a vacuum gauge. |

That we will have to wait and see. Once it is on the road you can check the plugs. Definitely need a cylinder head temp gauge and air fuel ratio gauge if you are going to tune it, but plug checks will keep you from destroying the motor in the short term. Mine took a bit more fuel after the 2056 upgrade. You may be able to cheat with just a resistor in the cht, but likely you will need to modify the mps in the end. Easy to modify, time consuming to tune.

The interesting thing is as I was assembling the motor I found this electrical thingy that was hand made that had some resistors and spade lugs on the end .When I messed with it it feel apart , I had no idea where it went . I searched and found one on AA and installed it when I installed it in the car ,yes it was wired in series with the CHT. I have read several posts on the MPS - it intimidates me . I did purchase from a member in classifieds , his name was Herman (Hermich) but it reads about 100 F when it is only in ambient temperature here of 63F .I also purchased a oil temp with numbers that I will have a few questions about but I will start a new post for those items .It is so nice to finally be able to add photos . Sounds like you've started on your 914 journey to where ever it leads just like the rest of us have done. Doesn't look like your picture was attached. If the picture size is too large, it won't post. I reduce the size all pictures from my phone before posting. Thank you , I found out (finally ) what I was doing wrong . You can go to settings on your (iPhone) /camera/Format and change from High efficiency to Most Compatible. Now I just take a photo and airdrop to my desk top 914 Photo file and find it in downloads (under finder) when you open it it opens in preview and then just use export and resize if needed ( but if you change the camera settings it is already resized) then look for it in Choose file and add this attachment ,now it is in the post and that's it . I can't believe it took me almost 3 years to get here . Now how do I add a WTB in classifieds ? This my next thing to figure out . I'm just adding screen shot because I finally can , Im sure you already know this . Thanks again . I love this site . I see it can be come addicting , better than doom and gloom news channels now that I am retired . |

Ron, welcome out from "lurking" status! A great story, and now that you are in the final stages of getting your car back on the road you are about to reap the rewards of your work -- more work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) . It never ends with a ~50 year old car, but they never fail to put an ear-to-ear grin on my face as I stare over the steering wheel and down the front hood. Occasionally I even get to do that when it is not on jack stands (or now on the lift because like me you likely will not be able to resist the temptation to upgrade to fancy jack stands). Don't forget that you will now need to buy a vehicle to be able to tow it home from your road trips. I recommend buying an old PG&E vehicle from US Auctions in Southern California as their pick-ups are generally well set up to tow. That was my old set-up, but I now tow it behind a Toyota Sienna with a tow package because nothing exudes "toxic masculinity" like a Porsche 914 being towed by a minivan. You are far enough along in your project to have already discovered how to assign Power of Attorney over your retirement accounts to our vendors. If not, I can walk you through how to do it on the Schwab website. On a serious note, they are great cars, generally reliable, fun to work on (mostly), and many World members are generous with their time, fund of knowledge, and parts. Post WTB ads in the classified and you'll be surprised what you might find at a reasonable price (like any FI parts you may need). I do want to commend you for putting another one back on the road. Kudos to you! Here is a picture of my tow vehicle . 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 6.8 turbo diesel Duramax , it could probably tow about 7 914's I always forget to do this @fiacra Attached thumbnail(s) |

That's a nice truck. I generally flat tow and I use one of the 914Rubber flat tow bar mounts with an EMPI Super Beetle tow bar. Easy hook up and no heavy trailer. That won't be an issue for you since your truck can easily handle the weight of a trailer. My "newer" 914s are both pretty reliable so I have very little need to tow, but nice to know I can rescue the car if I need to. It just gives me peace of mind. Way to go on figuring out how to post pictures. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tiphat2.gif) And yes, this site is addicting. |

I find it frightening that the cht goes to 600!!!
You would have to find a brand specific sensor for that gauge I suspect. We tend to use the little ring thermocouple that goes around the 3rd spark plug. I have Dakota digital, but there are other options. |
