If you talk nice, you can probably get @vintage914racer to measure the brackets on the kit I sent him.

I'll try to snap photos with measurements tomorrow.

I put this kit on my car, but I wish I hadn't. The gas shocks seem to fail, even with light usage. If someone knows of a quality strut brand I would like to know. In my experience I may get 5 years out of them.

Mine lasted 20 years but now i need a new set for both the front and rear trunk.

I noticed i had mounted mine upside down from how they're supposed to be.
Maybe that's why mine lasted so long?

They are warrantied for 5 years so failure around that time probably isn't a coincidence. I've noticed the same thing on the trunk shocks we use on our 911.

I'm sure different environments play a role-central/northern CA is a much more temperate region than Texas or the Northeast. We always figured it was the cold garage temps killing the seals.

Brand of lift support and country of manufacture are the biggest indicators of quality.

I like Sachs "Stabilus" versions. Normally made in USA.

5 years is more than I commonly see out of off brands, but temps vary wildly down here.

Ya'll have NO idea how heavy a minivan's rear hatch is...

Standard failure is "Hold open just long enough to start loading stuff into the back and then rat trap city!"

A "have-a-heart" trap for humans, usually ladies!

I had to source new struts for mine last year. I went through Liftsupportsdepot and ordered two SE200P60S10-W struts. Came with the ends and all in with tax for WA the total was $41.70. They fit great and hold the stock trunk lid VERY well.

Here are pictures of the kit I got from Clay. The gas struts, Suspa brand (c-16 14874 model), are 20.5 inches long. The ball join brackets are angled on one end (HSMP H180) and flat on the other (HSMP 120) .

It looks like the angled brackets are available here: https://www.imssupply.com/catalog/unknown/h...8zAbGjrdr2WGJlZ

And the flat bracket here: https://fsi-sales.com/products/bracket-sb-1...32ZgaRQBCgBoClW

And the struts are available here: https://shop.suspa.com/c16-14874-gas-spring-p182.aspx

I thought the other ones were flat brackets?

You're absolutely right. In my haste to post I overlooked the difference. I updated my original post to include photos of and links to the flat bracket as well.

In the mid '90s I spotted a 914 at the Pomona Swap with a home made rear trunk strut lift kit. Chatted with the owner and he allowed me take measurements + sketch it. He used the gas struts from a gen 1 VW Rabbit/GTI. I built my own kit here, and still working perfect 30 years now. Trick is not to build with Too strong of a gas strut>> it will lift too quickly like a catapult !

Second this- ordered a few days ago and they came quickly. Put them on today and it took just a few minutes. I'll be glad if they work for a few years. And the kit does NOT interfere with putting the top in the rear trunk.

Can someone who has these installed on their car take a few pictures of the orientation of the brackets and how they're mounted to the car? And if you did any cutting, please show that too. The kit I received came with directions that have been copied so many times, I can't make anything out in the photos. Thanks!
