Glad you got it through finally . These treads always help If it wasn't for this site I would have struggled putting my car back together . Many people just read these posts and don't engage as I did for years just because I couldn't figure out how to post a picture. My brother in law constantly told me use the forum but back in the 80's he didn't use posts nor could tell me how just I NEED to get on the forum and ASK. I was intimidated because I read many comments saying "This post is useless with out photo's" so I did not ask questions out of embarrassment that I couldn't add a photo . I would have been driving my car two years sooner if I would have just asked and saved a lot of money and avoided a few mistakes .I love this site ,it's better than watching tv during the day I can see good friends and bonds are made here.

Dang, that's one I haven't encountered before! I would have been doing the same thing, really scratching my head for sure.

Reminded me...
Heres one. OG cable came out of the tube albeit with a tug, but new cable wouldn't go in. Sound familiar.
Tried ALL the tricks in the bag, but seemed like the cable end was hitting a wall with about 2-3" from end.
Turned out a PO's errant sheet metal screw had pierced the tube and caused enough of a intrusion that it was no longer possible to feed the
rod end through anymore (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

There literally is never an end to the DAPO stories (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Thankfully I’ve not seen that one before but something to be aware of.

Found a solution yet? I’m envisioning some terrible solutions.

If the motor was out, Id use a tool I made, a section of 3/16's rod about 36" long which I brazed a an 1" length of a 13/64 drill bit to.
Its flexible enough to feed into the tube but stiff enough to chuck up in a drill & ever-so-carefully ream out any obstructions.
But in this case I cut out a flap of the tunnel floor, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) As you can see in that pic it already had a hole in it so I killed two birds. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

I like the creativity of the brazed drill bit solution. I was thinking along the same lines about cutting flap, maybe even from the front hump/steering gear area to access it from the front end but can’t remember off the top of my head if the rack, master cylinder, and other particulars of how that area aligns to the front of the tube. Didn’t notice the hole there. Good call to kill two birds with one fix - always impressed with your experience keeping em’ on the road.
