Picked up a pair of 914-6 flapper valves today that were mounting on some very good heat exchangers today. There is no rust and no sign they ever saw use on an engine.
Dansk new 914 flappers are about $140 each. They will be offered for sale along with the exchangers once I determine a fair value.
The exchangers have little metal missing around the pipes. pipes have coon deep rust pits but exhaust flanges are serviceable. Do no have pictures of them yet.

Pictures to be uploaded shortly.

Bruce, are there any major differences between the /4 valves and the /6 valves other than that large open port in the bell hat?

Nice find! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Bruce, that goes for you and absolutely everyone else here.

Not to hi-jack your thread, but it might be eye-opening to hear from all the others here that agree. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

No idea on value they are cool and all but it would be for the purists. To that group probably $250-300 for the pair.

I have compared four vs six flapper valves. Besides the hole there is a slight difference in the volume of the chamber under the cap. Not sure why

I have been running four flappers with a hole that replicates the six hole for many years now. No discernible problems

There is a slight length of tube and angle difference. Left is new Dansk 914-4. Right is original 914-6. I haven't tried to install the new Dansk yet. I'll be interested to see if the angle makes it hard to fit.

I'll try to do a side comparison 4 vs. 6
I think there is a difference in angle of the arms.
I have to dig up the parts.

$500 for the pair. Most 6 purists have deep pockets and they're getting deeper every year. Just remember what a restored original 914-6 fetches nowadays. GLWS (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I found this information in the PET regarding the differences between -6 and -4 heater flapper boxes.
914-6 Flapper Boxes
901 211 620 00 passenger side
901 211 610 00 driver side

914-4 Flapper Boxes

Since we are talking about the 914-6 flapper boxes I thought it would be a good time to share these photos of some modified flapper boxes.
I took these a few year ago on a very original 914-6 that would come into the shop for normal maintenance.
If you have a real 914-6 you know that many times the firewall shifter joint plastic cover is melted or totally removed.
Well the reason is the hole in the six flapper is turned right on the joint cover and so it gets messed up from heat.
This was a clever way to help with that problem. As you can see small metal tabs were welded on the the flapper to divert the hot air away from the plastic cover. Pretty cool solution. I don't know if this was a factory suggested fix or the guy that worked on this one before me was very creative.
I think I remember hearing/seeing that the 914-6 flapper had the hole in them to help with the cooling of the 914-6. This hole let out a lot more HE heated cooling air from the heat exchangers when the heat was not turned on. The 914-6 HEs are a lot larger that the 4 cyl HEs and the 6cyl creates more heat.

As promised
6 cyl. up front 4 cyl. middle Bay window/ Vanagon rear
These are all OEM parts
I see no difference that would make 4 cyl. flappers un-usable on a 6
The arms are all at the same angle on intact 4 and 6 valves
Adding the hole to a 4 makes a great substitute.
The VW van parts are shown to illustrate the very different position of the arms.
Sorry about the orientation. I took them with camera sideways and can't correct...can someone fix ?
