Headed to the shop today to install 125# rear springs and 19mm front torsions if the Craigslist guy who has them actually has them.

I'll report back.

Brant, Yes to above.

I have yet to add plastic but will be doing so in the next couple of weeks. I expect to get down to 1725lbs via hoods, bumpers, headlight mech's, and roof skin on sub frame. At that point I will start adding weight in bigger brakes and wheels.

Oh, Hey, even the new softer torsion bars and springs will be lighter!

I got the rear springs in yesterday. Massive improvement. For starters the 14" 125# springs don't have any free droop so they don't rattle on the perches, and 125# is a pretty good sport street spring rate. The car came with nice Bilsteins that I never knew were nice because the suspension didn't move.

Here's a pic of the old spring vs the new spring and a link to the springs I used.

Also, you guys are talking about 1800# cars. What are you doing that gets then that light? Are we talking no side windows and that level of commitment? My car is pretty sparse and still weighs 2000# wet.

Suspension travel is overrated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

I didn't take a lot of photos of the build process, just because that can become a full time job, but I do have a few just as a teaser. I'll actually take real pics of the whole thing soon. It's a really complicated thing lol.

The second photo says a lot I think.

I run extremely high spring rates, but have all teflon and monoball bushings, run Hoosier A7's with PCA LA Autocross, and like to win. Feel free to reach out for a ride in it.

Do you have anything done to stiffen the chassis? I notice a bit of "movement" in mine.

Who makes all the bushings you use? I see the Elephant racing options and they look as good as they are expensive.

I have the Mad Dog Motorsports longitudinal, inner rear ear, and front sway bar mount stiffeners. I use all Rebel Racing Teflon bushings on the front and rear suspension along with custom monoballs for things like drop links and camber plates.

I just love the murdered out black car look!

Wild drive train!

What transmission are you using?

What is your final drive ratio?

I'd love to hear that puppy at full howl!

All that black out look was done by the P.O. but it's kinda grown on me so O'm leaving it.

The drivetrain is a kit I'm developing with some friends where we ditch the bike transmission and adapt to a car trans. We are taking the power off the primary shaft of the bike engine, so it's geared down x.6. This means we can use regular car gearing a clutches and stuff. The other car running this kit is a Miata.

The transmission is currently a $500 craigslist-bought stock 901. Needless to say, I'm very ginger in first gear. I have another trans that has taller gears and I'll put that in soon. The ZD 5th is just a bit too short so I'm going with a flipped H.

I'll post a video. I promise.

Yeah. I have to arrive at acceptance that I need to beef up the longs. The door gap definitely changes a bit when it's on a lift.

Seems like that Rebel kit wouldn't be that hard to add.

QUOTE(flxzcat @ Mar 24 2025, 12:22 PM) *

My new to me 914-4 is 1825lbs weighed last week on Longacre scales and a 44%-56% balance (I like adding lightness)

Somehow, I got talked into 21mm hollow bars up front and 250lb coils in back.

The car is way too stiff on the street and I consider myself a hard-core racer canyon carver type.

I will soon be changing to 19mm front and 180lb rear.

Still to much.
