Hello,
The right door (side view) mirror on my 914 is currently the flat/driver type (914-731-039-10), and I would like to replace it with a convex/passenger mirror (914-731-040-10). My first choice would be to simply replace the mirror glass with a convex piece, but so far I have only found vendors selling replacement glass for the flat mirror. Does anyone know of a replacement glass source for the convex mirror?

If the convex replacement glass is not available, then if I were to purchase the convex replacement glass for some random vehicle (ensuring it is larger than the 914 OEM mirror size), would a glass shop be able to cut this down to fit the 914 mirror?

Of course the other options is to purchase a new/NOS OEM convex door mirror (914-731-040-10), but my searches indicate that only the flat (914-731-039-10) mirror appears to still be available. If that is true, then I'll post a WTB in the classifieds forum.

Thanks,
Frank

I could definitely use a convex passenger side mirror glass for my car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Original convex mirror was only a Sweden option. Check with Automobile Atlanta about replacement glass options, they may have them.

On Ebay.de there are convex mirror glass for both early and late. 914-731-040-10 is rare and has been NLA for 15+ years. I have only ever seen 1 in person.

Appears a number of choices - most look like "stick-on" but may work as a full replacement as the black plastic spacer usually isn't hard to remove, allowing the glass to easy pop out. but - looks like anything from autoteile-kkpartners doesn't ship to the US. This limits things quite a bit.

Thanks for suggesting to look at the German eBay site. I found a couple of listings for convex replacement glass, but one is for the early mirrors (69-72), and the other states it is for all years (69-76), which we know can't be correct.

I should have mentioned that I have a '76, hence looking for glass for the late style mirror housings. Based on the dimensions of 135mmx 82mm given for the "69-76" part, I assume this is for a late mirror housing. Here's the link: https://www.ebay.de/itm/402343226339

But unfortunately, similar to what Brian pointed out, this vendor (PS/PARTS/24) does not ship to the US. The same vendor also sells an Aspherical mirror for '69-'76 (same dimensions as the convex mirror) which would be a very nice option to have for the left/driver mirror (https://www.ebay.de/itm/402176826835), but I just need to find a way to get it shipped to the US. I'll try contacting the vendor to see if there are any options.

Interesting - I didn't know such a service exists. Thanks for sharing - I will look further into this.

I have a real convex passenger mirror on my car, it's just ever so slightly different but provides a greater view for sure. I also managed to swoop a NOS spare years back from Stoddard that's still in the parts stash because they're so rare. Would be great if there were replacement glass options (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

convex would be nice but the aspherical where only the outside edge is affected would be great - for either/both sides, actually.

Sunset Porsche (part of Sunset Imports) ran a sale ad for "914 Right Side Mirror," PN 914-731-040-10, in Excellence magazine some years back. Regular price was $88, they were on sale for $66. Maybe they still have one? 1-800-346-0182.

I bought one (maybe should have bought a couple)...

FWIW, the mirror isn't as convex as those on our other cars (the ones with the "objects are closer..." warning). Still helpful though.

I just had Gaudin Porsche (Las Vegas) check that part number and they told me that none existed at any dealership. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

A quick update on this - the German eBay vendor got back to me and said that they would not ship to the US. Time to explore the 'mygermany.com' option.
