I'm sure there are at least a few folks out there who like to play with 3D printers. I have a request for one of you:

I'd like a couple of cookie cutters that will make cookies shaped like four-lug Fuchs wheels. I've found other wheels (five-lug Fuchs, ATE "cookie cutter" five-lugs, etc.) but none of our four-lug ones.

Please PM me so we can work out details.

Generally don't want to use 3d printed parts with anything food related, the material is way to porous.

Maybe too porous for commercial use but for I wouldn't think it an issue for home use, probably hand-washing them anyways. Cookies will also be baked afterwards too, so I would not be worried. We have a few 3D printed cookies cutters around the house that my father has done for me, several are automotive related of course.

I'm not really worried about porosity. Mostly about the shape.

DD (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

I am looking for 3-D Dentistry material applications information (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

My wife has a gold capped lower tooth replacement appointment with her dentist that takes 2-hours. with 3-D tooth replacement technology in and out the door in 2-hours (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Summary, said D2740 crown-porcelain/ceramic and glass ionomer (probably glue) that is like porcelain)?? After watching on line videos my question can 3-D dentistry machines duplicate materials that are safe in your mouth?

I know dentistry materials are different than 914 replacement stuff, but can 3-D can machines be trusted to duplicate complicated materials?

Tom, any experts out there?

DD: Do you have a CAD file already or need it designed too?

As far as dentistry I believe that is becoming a new norm due to speed and cost.

I'm no expert when it comes to dentistry but as a consumer...Some dentists are going to the synthetic crowns, but I have doubts for my personal needs, yours may be different.

I know someone who has 3 crowns in the back part of her mouth so they are not part of her smile, and they are all Au on the periodic table. Just because 'everyones' going to the synthetics' may be convenient but is not sufficient justification to her for something that important. I understand the synthetics don't last very long before they need replacement from chipping/fracturing. Au is lifetime and it does not cost that much more than the other materials they are made from.

@Dave if you have a file, I have a printer but more importantly, Nicho is working as an architect in New York and has a very high resolution machine at his disposal.

I do not have a file. I just checked thingiverse and didn't find anything; not sure where else I could look. I have a friend who is low-key looking into making a model, but there's a reason "copious spare time" is a standard joke in the tech world.

The end goal would be to use this on clay. (Insert joke about 4-liter conversions here.) I do ceramics as a hobby now, and was thinking about interesting stuff I could make with 914 wheel shapes.

Re: dentistry--I have a 3D printed "night guard". It seems like it's pretty standard stuff; you can see and feel the layers. I don't know what the actual material is, other than some kind of plastic. The dentist warned me not to put it in the dishwasher due to the risk of it melting or warping. Zero experience with other dental applications.
