of interest to all ford (and porsche fans).
and the one and only @emerygt350 made it down to the ford 100th anniversary celebration in geelong victoria aus yesterday. took the XG ute for a well deserved blast down the freeway for the day and got the engine hot and cleaned out the combustion chambers. great day. too many fords. overwhelming. but this stood out. waited my whole life to see these two cars brought together again. still remember bathurst 1000 1977. ford got a 1 - 2 finish and staged it ala le mans with the GT40s a decade earlier. right down to holding back the #2 car as the ailing but leading #1 almost crippled made it to the end. ![]() there they were. together again. both cars survived. i think ford put them away in a warehouse straight after the race. occasionally they come out. but this was the first time i had seen them in the metal and the first time i can remember side by side. ![]() drivers names speak for themselves. ![]() ![]() with a lovely tribute to the late co0driver of #2. alan hamilton. the porsche connection. ![]() ![]() ![]() --------- sitting right opposite in the tent was this. ![]() ![]() i am pretty sure this was the real thing and not a replica. no signs. no explanatory card or identification. like you were meant to know what it was and if you didn't........ one of three phase IV GTHO falcons built for bathurst in 1972 then abandoned and aborted in the super car scare run in the newspapers. infamous. only two of the race cars survive. pretty sure this was the real thing. every other replica on display on the day had a sign explaining what it was. price...........value...........who knows. ------- tons of other stuff there of great interest. some of which came out of the ford museum which went into storage after ford shut down local production here 10 or more years back. they still run a test track and engineering design office outside geelong where they do work for ford international, but the aussie ford has been and gone. |

Very cool. Wish it was warm enough to put the new rack on the mustang but I think that's going to have to wait.

@Maltese Falcon
exhaust system of ford quadricycle (replica built by ford aus apprentices in mid 80s). cute headers. kind of vw beetle style muffler! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) was talking to the curator in charge of these cars since the official ford factory museum closed. this baby actually runs! he said he would have started it for me but the gas tank was empty and it needs pure ethanol which they didnt have lying around. ![]() ![]() |

XE falcon S. roughly same vintage/era as ypur stang. early to mid 80s. last of the V8s (until they came back with one around 2000) aus manufactured cleveland 351. total cult car. wish i had been smart enough to pick one of these up when worth peanuts and 80s style was on the nose. ford had dropped the two doors from the lineup with this model series. bog standard sedan body given a going over. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() wouldn't mind betting the door handles are exactly as per your mustang? |

Siamese port>combines the center 2 exhaust ports. The exhaust port flange (2 bolt) style is also common to: 928/944 Porsche, Nissan 300zx, even used these on custom Weber carb intake jobs. Nice--thanks for sharing.
Always cool to see vintage racers in action; even better at some 8/10ths or 9/10ths pace. |

Back in the 80s it was real easy to figure out the horsepower from the displacement. 0.5 x Cubic inches. sigh.
