When I turn either the male or female end of the speedometer angle drive the opposite end doesn't turn, they seem to be disconnected. Is this normal?

This may be the source of my dead speedometer as well. I'm waiting for the speedometer head to be returned from repair before going further. I'm wondering if removing the angle drive allows trans oil to leak out? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hissyfit.gif) |

If that is happening, the angle drive is junk. I found many available on eBay, and a small drive gear on shaft listed as well, is this part inside the drive that is possible source of the failure? @SteveNMaine
I replaced replaced my speedometer angle drive recently because it was leaking . Bruce Stone sells one with the proper O ring vs the one 914Rubber sells ,I purchased the 914 Rubber one and have had no issues but it does have a smaller O ring . My connection from the end of the speedo cable also was turning but now it does not turn now so replacement seemed to fix this as Clay mentioned . You also might check the 10mm bolt for tightness. Also the 26mm nut ![]() ![]() |

The 911 drive turns backwards from a 914 drive. |

I assume some sellers won't know original source, and is there any external part number or other distinguishing characteristic for ID of correct replacement? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) There is no visible difference, but the internal gears are different. You have to check the part number. The part number for a 911 angle drive is : 911 318 029 00 The part number for a 914 angle drive is : 914 318 029 01 If you are buying used, the seller should know what kind of transmission it came from or they need to verify the part number. |

It is more often that they don't know or tell you. |
