Man...I dodged a flaming bullet today. Juuuust getting back from a nice, long 90 mile drive - multiple stops, out in the country, etc… but 1/2 block from home and it just died…and then i smelled fuel - BIG.

My first thought that it was goin up in flames. I’d been driving a long time - hot motor…spraying fuel…ugh.

I immediately shut it off, coasted to the curb and grabbed the fire extinguisher and expected to see flames as I got out and popped the grille.

There was fuel spraying from the right side of the motor and had thoroughly coated the underside of the rain tray. But no flame...wow.

After I monitored and made sure it wasn't going to start on fire - lots of hot stuff there after the long drive - I found that an injector elbow had slipped off of the fuel rail right near the MPS. I clearly didn't tighten that enough when I swapped injectors a while back.

FOR SOME REASON…it didn’t light off.

It's tight now - they're all tight.

Holy Moly! I am so glad that ended well. I would have run to the gas station and bought $100 worth of Lotto tickets. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Not having your car catch fire was your lotto ticket. Glad you won!! Scary!!
A good reminder to periodically check the clamps on fuel hoses to make sure they're tight.

Wow, you are a lucky man. Glad you addressed it quick. I had a leak like that with a Saab many years ago, smelled it a little but I noticed my gas gauge going down fast and it was before Christmas with the kids in the car and a tree on top. Mark

What brand of fuel hose are you running?
I'm curious because someone mentioned awhile back that the Gates brand fuel hoses had a tendency to push back on the clamps such that they loosen up over time. I haven't found this to be the case (yet).

it's whatever comes crimped on the Standard FJ67 injectors as well as the clamps that come with them.

The others were fine - this one is a bit tough to get to under the MPS and I don't think I removed it when i swapped injectors - not sure why I didn't. I took it out yesterday to tighten stuff up and I remember thinking how much easier it was.

I truly think it was a case of me just not getting it tight enough, initially.
