OK, As many know I posted the news about Mike Blizzard's passing. I attended his service this past weekend and his wife Kim has offered me Mikes 914. She wants to "keep it in the family" and I am honored to be considered part of her family.

I plan to head up there on June 13th and will return between the 16th and 18th. I will be helping her go through everything Mike had stored that is related to the teener and will probably do some home maintenance for her while I am there since that is what I am doing now with my real estate investing business.

I am looking for a trailer to go up and pick up Mikes car and bring it back here to Florida so wanted to see if anyone has one that they could allow me to borrow or rent to me from June 12th, pickup day, to latest June 18th. I live in Palmetto, FL so am about dead center between Tampa and Sarasota. I have looked at UHaul and can use them but I don't like their trailer all that well. I did use one of them to pick up my Mercedes quite a few years back but the 914 is such a narrower body I'm leery about trying to get it on the Uhaul trailer.

Please let me know if anyone can help, thanks.

Mike next to his beloved teener and Tennessee Vols chairs!

I used U-Haul a few years ago. Car fit well and it towed great. Best, Mark

Did you do the tow dolly or the auto transport? I did just notice they have a "toy hauler" that might work well.

Pick the Uhaul trailer near Mike's place and drop it near your's. A lot less hauling.

I used their standard twin axle one a few times with 914s and even long hood 911 pulling it with my Sienna van. Easy peasy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

The ramps in the back can slide left-right to allow narrow bodies. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sunglasses.gif)

Looks just like this (Google picture)

If you go with U haul call and get the cost of one way vs round trip. See if they allow it. It depends on where they have and need equipment.
I salute you for helping his widow and being caretaker of Mike's car.

I used to use u-haul trailers a lot when I was buying 914’s. Use the standard one, not the tow dolly. They are heavy but pull steady. I would rent one way.

Only issue with the u haul is they don’t have a winch.

Ditto on U-Haul

1-way rental is typically more expensive, but gas ain't cheap any more either, so it's a trade-off depending on how far you have to go.

I have two trailers (a 24 box and 16 tandem flatbed). Whenever I ammoving cars longer distances I rent a Uhaul…..multiple reasons. First you don’t need to drag empty for one leg. Most of the time I rent locally and bring it back but also do one way. May be heavy but to me they tow well. ……plus brakes.
If car is too low have some 2x8s lumber to raise front and prevent damage.
80 -85 and it follows like sheep.
If you rent locally ( vs one way) be sure not to get their trash they use for local work…..they are bad.

Thanks everyone for the input. I did look up the one way trip and I think it is will definitely be cheaper as I don't know how long I will be staying there. Depends on how much stuff Mike accumulated and how many tasks that Kim has for me to help her with for the house. I feel more comfortable with the Uhaul option now that I have seen several 914's on it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
