In Colorado, I can use a vintage plate from the year of the car. I bought this on eBay, and if you are just a bit dyslexic, you can read it as "Type 914-4".

That’s a real score! The plate numbers are incredible having 914/4, that’s seems almost impossible. I am about to get mine on the road for the first time as well, and my best friend Scott’s dad collected old plates here in Fl since the early 60’s. They allow you to use old plates here too, so I found this one hanging in his garage and he gave it to me. Mine is a 74 2.0 Olympic blue.

I know I've posted this before, but I love year-of-manufacture plates. This was on my wife's family car in 74 - found it in a milk crate of plates that my father-in-law saved. Have his plates from 67 that'll go on the 911 when we get it to Indiana.

These got me digging. Found my original 1974 VA plates! Used them only a few months before being forced to register in NJ.
If anyone with a ‘72 in FL just let me know; you can have it.

Have this on my '71 which is currently totally apart for repaint, etc. Iowa back then had the county number (Linn county) on the left.

Love the vintage plates- though I now live in AZ I drive both 914's with my vintage plates as I'm usually driving to a C&C etc. Probably just jinxed myself but I've never been stopped. The real plate is in the rear trunk...Attached Image

My wife found these in a local shop a few years back; gave them to me as an anniversary present. “Our 914” for sure.

I got state approval, so these are legally on my car now. Again, just read the letters and numbers a bit out of order, and it says Type 914-4. Right?

I scored '74 plates off of eBay a few years ago.

Mine is not vintage but still had fun getting it. With Wisconsin limits to the number of number (7) I asked for 914 6 GT. got it and added the dash with electrical tape. Fun, MarkAttached Image

Well, we don't have personalized plates here, plates are always two-letter canton (state) symbol plus only numbers - up to 6 places. What they do is allow people to buy unused plates that might have numbers they are interested in - either outright or via an auction for the most wanted ones. Plates can have as few as just one number or as many as six. You can imagine that the plates with one, two, three or four numbers are either very expensive to aquire or unavailable.

Just '914' was obviously not available here and although I did find a couple of 4-numbered plates that included '914' they all started at $2K. So I settled for this which cost me $300. I think it's pretty cool. The black dots between the numbers are mine.

(no VD jokes, I've heard them all... The VD is the two letter symbol for the canton of Vaud)

I admit I am jealous of all your custom-ordered plates. I think I did pretty good watching ads and eBay listings for random plates issued 52 years ago.
