Even with 260 horsepower, the 914 S would have stood out as the most powerful road-going Porsche of its era had it seen the light that awaits at the end of a production line.

I feel like they did almost no research for that article. Like they asked AI to write a short and dumbed down article on the 914-8.

i reckon its absolutely true.
piech + h k did the car more or less.
with the cousin slowly excluded from any involvement in the final product.

The 914 has always been a 911 slayer with a competent driver behind the wheel, especially with a /6 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

Just sayin’ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

I like where they stashed the fire extinguisher. I hadn't seen the center armrest area used like that before.

Funny, but a 3.6 conversion has more power and no fabrication besides the engine tin.

AI slop is a real thing, we all better get used to it, it's not going to go away.

Very true but so does an LS engine. But a 908 engine, custom fitted to a 914 by Porsche is a very special machine.
A year or two ago I read an article that interviewed one of the Porsche employees that actually fitted the engine to the car and worked on all their special projects. That article had value.
This article refers to the cars as prototypes. They were never prototypes of anything Porsche intended to produce. They were specially modified cars to be given to two specific people.

I lust after the silver one.

yes - i read that article a few years back. first class bit of historical reporting.
got a real sense of piech's personality from the old tech guy being interviewd. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) tangerine car was built in a locked room if i recall the article correctly - even ferry porsche did not have keys to the door.
