I used to have a local guy, recently closed up. These days I travel about 45 minutes to a nearby town to have this done. I'll bet there is someone nearby who can rebuild

If I can't find someone locally in the greater PHX area I'll send my original to bdstone- want to keep my original one rebuilt and not do an exchange.
Thx. |

Getting it done local will save you two way shipping. And as Mark mentioned I have a new Bosch he send me. We tested it to verify the amperage which is stock. |

I've got a local shop here in CT, too. They seem to do a better job than the ones we get at a FLAPS, and they last longer.
If a regular reseller like Bruce has a good source then I'd go with that as a swap out, especially since Bruce has a core handy to get 'er done. |

Just my two cents,
I would definitely have it or one rebuilt as Bruce suggested. Last time I changed mine, not one, not two, but three times I had to change it out. All were remanufactured Bosch alternators and two of them were junk right out of the box (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) . I guess the silver lining is I got faster at changing them. |

I don't think I have ever heard of numbers matching alternators, and for a moment before I sent mine in I was attached to it but then I noticed that it was remanufactured too. 50 years on, it is unlikely the alternator in your car is original. The best thing you can do is have someone who cares and is good at it rebuild one for you.

FWIW I run one of Bruce's and spin the motor to 7500 rpm and it's still working!
