Anyone have experience with this bumber as far as fit and quality ?
It’s the Sierra Madre Porsche 914 GT Bumper Working on fitting a GT style lower valance as part of an oil cooler, oil cooler shroud, and air exit and valance project. I have a chrome bumper, but it’s kind of beat up. Will require cutting, restoration and then re-chroming. My rear bumper is chrome in excellent shape and both Bumper toppers are in very good shape. Exploring black fiberglass front and rear bumpers instead. I bought the best GT front lower, fiberglass valance. I could find but it needs considerable fiberglass work. I want to avoid that process with bumpers. Sierra Madre GT Bumper https://sierramadrecollection.com/products/...8BoCgv8QAvD_BwE ![]() |

Hi Todd - Hope all is well. Glad to see progress on your car.
For my bumper GT modification I took a slightly different approach. My front GT valance is steel, made by the shop that did my metal work. I mounted that to the car and created a template of the valance opening and sent that with my stock front metal bumper to Ben McFarland to have the bumper modified to match the valance. I think it came out very nice. The wrinkle was I sent it out to chrome and they did not do the best job. On my list of stuff to do is to pull the front bumper, maybe this winter, and send it out to a local (hopefully) chrome shop and have it re-chromed. It is always something, right? Good luck with your project. Knowing the level of detail on your car, I am sure it will look outstanding. Michael (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Ben is absolutely the guy to make a steel bumper. He’s done dozens of them.
Glass is glass. It always needs work. Even when they promise it’s plug and play. And it eventually cracks around the mounting holes. Glass is fine for a track car but will always have compromises for a road car. $500 is a bit pricey but that might just be the going rate today. |

Ben did my front bumper as well and did an excellent job. I bought the Fiberglass lower valance from AIR and it needed all kinds of tweeking to get it to look right. I have a couple of front fiberglass bumpers to sell if you decide to go that route.

I feel my price to do a steal bumper is really a value @$500. If making a GT tribute you paint the bumper black when done and it’s cheap way to have a good fitting bumper

I recommend staying with Steel, unless the cost justifies fiberglass. I feel like I need to ad weight to the front of mine to improve the ride and balance.

My brother has a set of fiberglass GT bumpers/valances for his 6 conv. I'm not looking forward to installing them. The fit isn't great and will require lots of fitting/cutting/reworking of the fiberglass. I ended up buying a set of Ben's modified GT steel bumper/valance for my 6 and couldn't be more pleased.

I recommend staying with Steel, unless the cost justifies fiberglass. I feel like I need to ad weight to the front of mine to improve the ride and balance. A painted steel GT front bumper is actually very light. I’ll have to weigh one of mine when I get home tomorrow but it’s only a couple pounds more than glass. Front and rear lids in glass are where you can save a lot more weight. The glass bumpers used to be about $200-250. I was sort of shocked to see they have doubled in price. |

Thanks for all the feedback
@914 wes @mepstien @racer 914 @fasthonda @CAIRO94507 @Luke m I’m familiar with Ben’s work as I have his exchangers, oil tank and muffler. Top quality Bumper conundrum is the pain in the ass process. Mostly the restoration that needs to be done on the bumper post modification by Ben. If I did paint it, it still needs a ton of bodywork and then I would have a rear chrome bumper that’s in beautiful shape. Would be ashamed to paint that. Chrome vendors very limited. See the other thread currently about that. Poke some holes in this idea…. By a new stainless steel front bumper. Ask Ben to do the GT modification to a finish level and shine. Total price with new bumper, Ben’s modification, shipping …,about $2000. Might just be an option? I do like the fiberglass bumper racing look but it has its downsides too. Safety and prep, fitting, longevity. ![]() |

Looks like I might be off in the pricing. Bumper is close to $1600 plus tax/ shipping. Total project finished cost would be closer to $ 2500.

They all come from Group Harrington. I actually need a ss rear bumper (already have a front) so if they don’t sell bumpers individually, I’d be up for splitting an order with someone.

That is a good deal for the SS GT bumper. And, if your front GT valance is fiberglass, that can be made to match the bumper pretty easily by a glass guy.
And, just to further muddy the waters, I have spoken with 2 members, just this week who are currently seriously considering SS bumpers. Perhaps if you guys all get together, maybe George will give you free shipping or a discount on the bumpers... never hurts to ask. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

So cat out of the bag I worked with Harrington to have them make the GT cut outs. The were not the right radius on the corners or even centered in the opening. Currently my car has one on it and the opening is offset by 1”. I need to fix that at some point. To everyone’s point there are NO premade GT bumpers that exist currently. I am the one that does the conversions to the stainless bumpers for AA. Once the conversion is done to the stainless bumpers bumper the whole bumper needs to be repolished at a cost of about $300. Chroming is still the best option cost wise but you need to try to organize a group buy type of service similar to what Oscar did years ago. |
