As many of you have seen I took the engine out, throughly cleaned and installed all necessary gaskets to stop the leaks. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...3371&st=100 I did not split the case and I have a minimal case SEEP....perhaps a drop or two a day. I ran the car yesterday and it was glorious, the engine is super smooth and after I got the shift system calibrated (a short shift kit in a 1970 rear shift setup is not a good combo) the car was awesome. Inspected afterwords for leaks and seeps. There are a few other seeps that I am not too concerned with, however there is a leak at the top of the engine that is concerning. I have wiped and then I have run the engine and the oil re-appears in the same place, leaking from between the Cam Box and Air Cover right above #5 The oil is coming from between the exposed Cam-Box and Air-Fin cover as seen in the second picture. The amount of oil is going to be a problem in a longer drive.....I would like to keep the engine bay as clean as possible - if possible..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I see no way forward other than removing a bunch of stuff and inspecting. Any sage advice from the more experienced Teeners ???? Thank you, CTC911CTC |

I think you remove the carbs and associated, and remove the shroud. That will tell you the "where" it is coming from. That is an interesting location. Other than a gasket that has something allowing an opening that is obvious, you will only see it from the inside.
Other option is from underneath... is it dripping down as much as it is coming up? You may be able to ID the source from under Cyl #5. |

MY 1980 SC had an oil leak which i could not find till till the engine was pulled.
it was the idiot light oil pressure sender !!, easy fix. Barefoot |

Thank you, CTC911CTC Are you sure it isn't leaking from the top of the valve cover? If it was inside, you should have oil drips on the heat exchanger. I see you have a 'jumper hose' between the 4 and 6 intake ports. Two rubber caps would be better. It also looks like you don't have the left breather hose connected to the air cleaner. |
