So when I’m just turning left without applying the brakes, the front and back turn signals work as they should. With the brake applied the turn signals do not blink.

The right side works correctly. It’s a 1973 model.

I did install the Spoke led front turn signal boards but I’m not sure if it did the same thing before the LED change. I only noticed because a car behind honked at me when I was turning left.

Any ideas for this problem would be appreciated.

You might want to reverse the previous surgery. Maybe. IMO, you have to test your changes ASAP.

Happy holidays.

I have a similar issue going on with my front turn signals and parking lights. It happens intermittently - when I'm pulling up to a red light and I'm behind another car, I can see in the reflection of the car in front of me that when I tap the brakes, the parking lights in the turn signal housing go out. When I take my foot off the brake they come back on. Then at other times, the parking lights will stop working while I'm driving and don't come back on (doesn't appear to be effected by braking).

I have a hard time re-creating this issue at home in my garage so it's not been easy to resolve. I think I will make it my #1 winter project while it's off the road for a few months. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Call the spoke guys to see what they say. Here is my thoughts… others may have different ideas.

In general… the LED lights in turn signals draw a lot less power. This affects the flasher… as the flasher technology uses the power to trigger. When your brake lights are off there is enough power going thru the circuit and the flasher pulses correctly. When the brake lights come on… its drawing power over to those lights and away from the turn signals circuit. The flasher then no longer has enough power to pulse.

There is a fix… you can search for it. It involves changing the flasher.

You've got one of the turn signal buckets mis-wired. Could be front, could be rear.

Time to dig into the LED swap you did and carefully check where everything is hooked up.

Installing LEDs in turnsignals and brakes won't cause any strange issues unless there are some socket or wiring issues. LEDs will tend to accentuate any wiring/socket issues.

Quick question: are the brakes incandescent or LED?

The brake light is a combination of running light and brake (dual filament). Likewise the front turnsignal is also dual filament with running light and turnsignal.

If the ground is lost on the brake bulb it can cause the running light to power via the brake light through the running light.

Ground can be lost on a bulb if the socket and/or bulb base are oxidized. A good cleaning with a small screwdriver to scrape the socket sides and power buttons. Do not press hard on the power buttons.

Try this test: remove the brake bulb and see if the turnsignal stops when the brake is applied.

Did you change any wiring after you noticed this behavior? Being intermittent it could be oxidized sockets. You can try cleaning all the sockets with a small screwdriver. Bulb bases can be cleaned with steel wool. Do not use steel wool on the sockets; use a small screwdriver and just scrape the surfaces.

Try removing the brake bulbs and see if anything changes when applying the brakes.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will dig into this in a few weeks and let you know what I come up with.
