Did you remove the steering wheel? The wheel has a tang that contacts part of the turnsignal lever when the lever is activated. Check that the tang is there and the part of the lever interferes with the tang to cancel the turnsignal.

Sharing my experience on this topic.

I had the same problem with my car when I first acquired it (in my case, the turn signal would not cancel when turning to the right). The issue was a faulty aftermarket switch where the white plastic tab on the switch that extends out to the center when the turn signal switch is engaged would fall down when the switch was placed in the upper (right) position (see circled area in photo below). This would prevent the 'tang' on the cancel ring from contacting the tab on the switch when the steering wheel spun back counter-clockwise after the turn. I tried applying some grease to the tab mechanism to prevent it from falling down, but that only worked sometimes.

So I purchased a new switch (aftermarket is only option) which did not have the issue noted above, but the tab when pushed by the tang in either direction would not cancel the turn signal switch. I tried canceling the switch manually with the steering wheel removed and found that pushing the tab in the cancel direction took significant pressure to get it to move (I thought it was going to break), but even when moved it would not cancel the switch. It simply appeared that the switch was poorly manufactured. Lubricating the moving parts did not help.

I then ordered a used OEM switch from an eBay seller. The turn signal stalk is a bit worn, but the switch works perfectly, and has a much smoother feel than the aftermarket part. Oh, and the male spade connectors on both aftermarket switches were made from a very thin metal which resulted in a very loose fit with the female connection under the steering column (the connector had to be taped together to prevent them from separating). The connectors on the OEM switch fit snugly as they should.

Be sure that you’re not over tightening the 4 long screws that hold the wiper and turn signal switches in the column. The switches should almost float in there. When I installed a new turn signal switch and new cancelation ring, they wouldn’t cancel. I loosened those 4 screws a good bit and then the turn signals canceled perfectly.

My turn signals work OK if i make a large turn of the steering wheel. I have an aftermarket steering wheel and for some reason the cancel tab isn't at the 9 o'clock position but more like 10.30 so i need a bigger turn of the wheel in one direction (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
I tried epoxing a tab extension but that didn't seem to work ??

In the case of my repro switch I get right hand turns canceled, but not left hand turns. What causes this ?
