I tried 2-part epoxy that is supposedly purpose made for this but it doesn't set up quick enough.
I can't hold the mirror up for 5 minutes perfectly still without moving, which creates a weak bond that fails after a day or two. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

Just be sure to use the black colored pad, white one doesn’t look good from the outside.

With the pad, put it on the windshield first and use a roller to get all the air/bubbles out so it looks nice. Then place the mirror onto the pad. I have never had any luck with the epoxy to attach mirrors. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I used this over the summer. Cleaned up the base first then roughed up the metal bits for grip.
Fingers crossed, so far so good. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VNAIQ2 |

Sorry, should have mentioned, not a stock mirror, i don't think the pad will work in my application.
Or maybe it will? This mirror is bigger and heavier. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

Or maybe it will? This mirror is bigger and heavier. What is the pad made of? If you're looking for a double-sided mounting tape, use 3M VHB (Very High Bond), that stuff is tenacious. I'm told it was designed to install external windows and panels on skyscrapers, and I used it to mount a solar panel on the roof of my RV trailer. It does not come off easily...if at all. Available in various thickness, width, and length. |

The mirror on my 914 is aftermarket and the pad is also metal. I had to remove the pad from the mirror to get the pad glued on. I used something like this for the adhesive. If the directions say just use 1 drop of adhesive do it. I flooded it with adhesive the first time and it didn't hold. Exactly what I used on 3-911's last year. put tape besides the old adhesive to keep the location framed, clean with razor blade and their cleaner wipe and then one drop of adhesive. 911 mirrors are a little easier since they have a separate mount that doesn't put torque on the glue while it dries but I've seen all 3 cars over the past couple months and all is good. I pick it up at advance auto. |

One thing to check: is the mirror mounting flange curved to match the glass? If not the gap will be uneven, a slight problem with mounting pads and tape, and a bigger problem with glue.
