Does anyone have experience replacing the fuel tank overflow hose on a 914? I bought a reproduction hose from 914 Rubber, but I'm concerned the OEM hose is pre-formed with a right hand turn to go down to the exit drain hole. I can't find any photos of the OEM hose for comparison. I'm hoping to do this without removing the gas tank for improved access on the underside.

Some WD40 on the bung and hold the end of the hose in boiling water for 30 seconds. Leather gloves.

I used the hot air gun and some glycerin as lube. Once on the top I had to use a punch the size of inside tube to get it through the lower hole. Had I known it wasn’t preformed very much I would have just bought pvc tube from the local hardware store

Those are all good tips, but did anyone have issues trying to route it under the tank and down the exit hole without removing the tank. I'm concerned the hose will get hung up trying to make a right hand turn for the exit hole since I'm working blind from up top.

I had to sort of get it close to the exit hole before I put the steel rod in it to straighten it out and guide it through the hole. It can be done. If my old one wasn’t so discolored I would have used it.

Good idea and I'm still debating about trying it as mine is just discolored but functional and I was thinking about inserting a new one. Looking for things to do in the winter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Can you start from the underside and go up, then attach to the tank.

I'm looking at that also, but the drain hole underneath is really tight and the end that connects to the overflow pipe is enlarged to fit tightly on the pipe. You're working blind unless you lift the tank. I think the best solution is to slightly lift the tank on the left after I undo the tank strap. Option 2 is too just leave it alone for now.

I was able to guide the lower end close the the lower hole first then kept it there with the steel rod while I attached it to the overflow port. Then I pulled the excess out the lower hole using the rod as a guide
