My mechanic recently replaced my CHT and used electrical tape over the spade connectors which I find unacceptable.
I assume there should be a spade housing covering the connectors like so many other places around the engine. I've searched, but haven't found the part. Does anyone know if they are still make it (and the part number) or where I can find a similar housing to use? |

Yup . . . Lazy mechanic beware. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif)
If you want OEM connector place WTB in classified - someone can probably come up with one. If you’re not hooked into OEM there are parts like this available commercially. Wiringdepot.com, granger, McMaster Carr, etc are likely sources |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) This and probably easier to source than my recommendation that may force larger quantity purchase. |

Sorry, I don't know if it's just my car, (but it does look original) but the car's wiring harness end is a male connector and this male spade seems very long too, only the CHT end is a female connector.
So, I would need one of these with a female and male on each end. |

There are a few of these in various locations around the car, two triples up front by the headlight motors...
I did have a bit of a hard time finding them here at first, I finally bought some in Germany via eBay... Then later I did find some suppliers here, but what I already bought in DE is probably a lifetime supply. I like the fully transparent ones because you can see the condition of the connectors inside. You can cut the 12x strips apart into singles, doubles etc. ![]() |

With all credit going to JeffBowlsby - he will have the proper connector.
As the OP noted, the picture I posted of a double male spade isn’t correct. The CHT sensor is a female spade and the harness side connector / insulator is only a single spade. If I recall correctly (?? Questionable) the wiring harness side is a male spade that gets crimped to the harness and the the spade is inserted/locked into the plastic insulator. Regardless, there are multiple ways the mechanic could have done something better than using electrical tape but I’m sure Jeff will get him set up properly. |

Agree with your statement about there are better ways than electrical tape. Frankly I was very surprised when I saw this. Funny thing is (maybe not funny), I only took it to a mechanic because of personal time related issues and problems getting it SMOGed so I could register it.
Now I've doing the work myself and cleaning things up. Jeff has said he has exactly what I need and will be sending it out. Which I appreciate immensely. This will then close out one thing which needs to be rectified in a long line of things which need to be fixed. |

Now I've doing the work myself and cleaning things up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Almost always the better plan vs paying someone to learn about 914’s on your car. My philosophy is if someone is willing to do shoddy work on something you can see, imagine what they will do if only they know what has been done. |

Yes, you are correct - I have a harness from Jeff and I went and looked more closely today - the connector he supplies is pretty opaque so it's hard to see what's inside, but after shining a strong light at it, it does indeed look like a male to female. Mine is a '73 so the female end going into it is actually the 270 ohm resistor, then I have a male to male coupling connecting that to the CHT female spade. |
