While going through my stash of parts, I found this unused piston set. Flat top, no valve pockets, 82 mm diameter with Kobelschmidt markings. They do not seem to match any Porsche or VW specs that I am aware of.

Does anyone recognize these?

Best guess is that those are Type 1 1500 pistons.

Dug out my old Type 3 tech manual. 1500 engines were 82.95mm and 1600 were 85.45mm. It says that KS and Mahle pistons were used, but probably not VW pistons.

Also looks like 'racing style', there isn't much of a lower part of the piston.

Yeah, it seems my memory is off by about 1mm on the 1500 pistons. Don't think either the 356 or 912 ever used an 82mm bore piston.

Next guess is an industrial motor or a schlepper motor (although the piston skirts seem to be more in line with a stroked motor?). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks for all your suggestions. Chat GPT helped me determine that these are BMW 1.5L pistons.

Bore - 82 mm
Stroke - 71 mm
CR - 8.5:1
1962-1977
