In the process of wrapping up replacing all the vacuum lines on my 73 2.0. I went by a combination of the 73 and 74 diagrams on Bowlsby’s site. But looking at this one some of the lengths seem long compared to what was in the car and fit without having a bunch left over. The three 36” lengths make no sense to me.

Length doesn’t matter. At least in this case….

Length has no effect on the vacuum/air/fuel flow. You want the lines long enough for smooth bends and easy routing.

Like we say with electrical wires; it's easy to make them shorter, not so much making them longer...

If you still have the old ones you can use them as cutting templates.

I like to make vacuum hoses a little longer than original. They go bad at the ends. When they do you can cut off the stretched, hard or cracked part and reuse the hose.

When I recently replaced a few more vacuum lines that had aged, longer is always better as stated above as it's easier to shorten it. I've noticed when running the vacuum lines according to the diagrams on Jeff's site, one of the lines that runs from the distributor to the throttle body, it runs underneath the intake manifold runners and snakes around so it was nice to cut it a little longer then adjust. I also used the old hoses I had in the car to use as templates for each one that I know weren't replaced by me a number of years ago.

Right. A number of these run under the intake manifolds if you follow the original routing. To me it doesn't seem ideal to have hoses so close to HOT engine bits so trying to reroute and not have that happen. But it is very cramped as we all know.
