 engine lid won't fit, anyone had trouble after renewing the welting? |

My Rustoration is pretty much finished with a new 2056 engine and new paint etc. The last bit being added is the engine lid, and it doesn't want to close. The lid edge welting I purchased is bigger than the original: can that be a problem?
Normally I would ascribe this to an error on my part, but the lid is not clearing the trunk lid, and they both hinge from the same part of the car, a part I didn't have to fix or change. Any suggestions? I have already added more fore and aft play by enlarging the holes in the lid hinges. |

Mine is tight. I take my hand and push/pound it back with the lid open with my open hand. Seems to work for me. Also… is your trunk too far back? It may need a little tweak.

My experience with this is that the brackets that hold the engine lid into place bend outward and upward, causing the engine decklid to move towards the rear of the vehicle. It is not uncommon for these to be bent or worst case scenario break off, check to make sure the bracket is square against the firewall. In my opinion, this is the only way the engine decklid to be tight in the engine bay next to the rear deck lid.
