Yes, I know they are still out there and in most cases prices are through the roof. IF you are going to need them buy them now.

Our wholesale prices are pretty much where retail was a year or two ago. I'm not sure what is inflation or tariffs but prices keep increasing. Especially parts from Germany like Mahle p&c's.

I've watched normal everyday parts triple over the last decade!
When I opened this business in 2015 a 30lb jug R134 could be bought at Sams Club for $75 and they had a mountain of the stuff. If I can beat 300 now, I'm kicking ass! That is a 400% increase for no good reason... My labor rate started at 100 and has moved up to 160. I'm losing rapidly! The REAL problem is parts quality!!!!! For 3 decades aftermarket parts were fine and sometimes better than OEM. Now EVERYTHING will fail within 1 year unless it's OEM. I give 1-year unlimited mileage warranties and can no longer install aftermarket stuff. I've got a wholesale distributor of OEM compressors... They kick ass but are running out of the OEM stuff. I bought the last OEM Sanden compressor for a 08 CRV from them. I sold it to my customer for $600 and made a profit. No more are available except directly from Honda at $2240! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) The estimate that customer got from Honda for the AC work alone was $8500 and they tried to steer her to a brand new CRV (which is crappier now). This car is worth 9-10K... I did the compressor replacement AND ALL of her needed PMs for 2K and she was ecstatic! I'm going to retire and do something else... We are well under $200/hr and I’m told that is ridiculously low. When you look at what it cost to turn the lights on each day, the people telling me that are right. And a lot of the people saying it are our customers….

And a lot of the people saying it are our customers…. I called a highly specialized Porsche Service European Performance (all brands including Porsche) in Traverse, Mi about 80 miles from my home in Norther MI and they quoted hourly shop rates @ $250. per hour and learned service appointments are booked into/through October 2016. Yikes. I checked my downstate Ann Arbor repair shop buddy from downstate at $150. per hour, Owner said $250. is coming and he will have to adjust his shop rates. Tom |

There are a lot of reasons as to why the cost of imported parts has gone up so much.
We sell welding equipment imported from Italy. The cost of freight and the tariffs has increased the landed in warehouse cost tremendously. The cost of the equipment has gone up just under 5% in the last 18 months, but the cost to bring it in has more than doubled. Fuel surcharges go up immediately as oil prices start to creep up, but go down very slowly once oil starts to go down, and have never gone down to the previous level. Tariffs used to be 3% on most equipment, now it is 15%, and we are still waiting for the tariff refund from when it was set at 50%. These elevated prices are here to stay. Get use to it. |

I'm not sure what is inflation or tariffs but prices keep increasing. Especially parts from Germany like Mahle p&c's. Yes, you absolutely got it right. Yes, it is inflation. Yes, it is the tariff-taxes. Yes, it is the increased costs of fuel/transporting goods to us here. Still here waiting for refunds of all the illegal tariff-taxes collected earlier this year and last year. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) |

Not holding my breath. Many of the tariff fees came with transaction and processing fees. Usually $15-45. So can you legally charge a fee on an illegal (tariff) fee? Does that get returned as well? |
