Can anyone confirm that the fuel pump, when the wires are reversed (i.e. pos instead of negative) WILL NOT RUN?
I just dont want to run the bugger in reverse (fuel pump, not car). T |

Fuel pump is a DC motor. Expect it to run backward if you hook it up backward.

The pump will run, but backwards. It's marked with a + and a - sign, so there should be little confusion. The Cap'n

Oh, I'm going to be hooking mine up this week sometime and have a related question... There is a green wire and a brownish red wire, which is the pos and which is the neg?

Brown is ground in German cars. IF yours is unmolested, the brown wire should be ground. The stock wiring for the 70-74 cars has a plug which fits into the socket on the pump, preventing you from screwing up. Late cars have 2 loose wires. You might go the extra mile and actually test the wiring with a test light. Remember, the 12v + wire to the pump is energized for only 1.5 seconds when you turn the key on, then it goes dead until the car is cranked or you recycle the ignition switch. Thanks Cap'n , I wanted to hook this stuff up before I get my new optima battery for the car..I have no battery to use for testing at this point. Thanks for the advice!
