70, 914-6, all Stock
In my last message I took the car to Lexington (from Cambridge/Arlington) then through Winchester and back, about 10 miles. Friday I drove the car 120 miles to Holderness NH, I started taking back roads but my timing was soooo bad I was stuck on the back roads, traveled about 12 miles in an hour. and then it rained, I mean RAINED. I purchased new arms and blades so I was psyched to turn on the wipers. I also had RainX on the windshield (best stuff in the world, probably will cure diseases), so I was set. Hhhhmmm, need to close the gap at the window and roof - little leak, and THEN...Where did the wiper blade go! The one on the driver side disappeared. UhOh, the one on the passengers side fell off as well but caught on the arm. I pulled over and found the drivers side. (I was going very slow, just a few car lengths back, ) Seems that though they snap into place, the fit is not right.......UGH, they are the good ones too......sigh....... Well it stopped raining and time to make up some time! - so I go on 93N. Held 65-70 with no problem however, too much rich gas going into the muffler while going downhill - was that a gun shot? - no a back fire, do not want to do that again. Clutch-in while downhill. Got It! I was a bit outside of Concord NH and I hear beeping from the left - BMW M5 SUV, guy is yelling and waving.......perhaps angry at the '70s emission quality? No, at the next safe spot I pulled over and a fellow 914World patron was just saying hello! Has a 914-6 in his garage! Showed pictures like we all do, Hi Marc! Back on the road when not under power, cruising, the car would BUCK, not real bad but bad. I will report back, I have not re-calibrated the carbs ( I am now an expert) since I found the timing culprit - (wrong springs in the distro, more on that in my last post) - so perhaps some lean-method tuning will take care of it. Engine when under power is super smooth, the transmission shifts like a dream, all of the hard work through the winter has payed off, Drove into Holderness, went to Walter's Basin for a beer and burger.....great place! My 6 is now in the garage in NH, I now have an open bay in Boston......hhhmmm.....really would like a 911SC, 82/83.......hhhhmmmm |

YIKES - did not think about that - there is NO rust on the car.........i was more concerned about salt.......will put the car on the lift and inspect those brown spots as they emerge...... Funny, it was bought from Vasek in Hermosa Beach, the guy that originally owned it lived 3 blocks from me (we both lived in Redondo). It is, as am I, in NewHampshire |
