My 1975 Porsche 1.8 Production Spec Report, Huh? Options

I was interested to see if the seats in my car were factory, so I sent away for the official Porsche Production Specification report. Surprised and confused.







2.0!?!? What? When I purchased the car it was badged with a 1.8 and had a 1.8 with fully operational Ljet EFI. Nothing leads me to believe it was anything but a factory 1.8. What's the likelihood that the factory spec sheet is wrong?

Oh, yeah... kind of cool that the tartan seats are original.

not actually much to distinguish traces of a 1.8 versus 2.0

I hate to say it but you wasted your money. Porsche factory specs are a joke. You should have gone with Dave's production report.

Do you have any factory evidence that the car was either a 1.8 or 2.0, such as:

* the label aboe the relay plate indicating the engine size?
* the oriignal owners manual with your VIN and engine size indicated?
* Th original window sticker with the mdoel indicated?

If so, recommend you contact PNCA again and get them to correct the PPS.

I wouldn’t say it’s a waste of money. A future buyer might value it. Generally, the more documentation the better when it comes to getting the best price. People like seeing “factory” documentation, even if it isn’t saying much.

Thank you both for your follow up replies. For those wondering, Claude says that reaching out to @DaveP is how one would acquire one of Dave's more detailed reports. I have yet to reach oit to him regarding the cost. It would be interesting to have one and compare the difference in information. Based on some of the documents I have on the car, I have reason to believe the car spent some time in Canada; this could explain the seemingly low miles for a 1975 model year car.

Dave's report was around $165 if I remember correctly. PCNA can't seem to the get the facts correct, you should not have to go back to them.

i looked at the BAT documentation for your car.
the COA or whatever porsche call it these days is wrong.

1. tyre sticker on fuel tank - SR tyres. tick for 1.8.

2. left hand instrument in binnacle is handbrake flasher not temp gauge.
if it was a non appearance group 2.0 would be a temp gauge.
i doubt its an appearance group 1.8 or appearance group 2.0 that has lost its console. they also have the flasher - gauge is in console. besides COA would say it was appearance broup if it had been.

3. the engine bay is a perfect original condition L jet bay. no way would it be this way if the engine had been exchanged. and why would you down grade a 2.0 to a 1.8?
and do it so carefully.
i've seen examples of 1.8s upgraded to 2.0 and badged as 2.0s and its evident from the air cleaner bracket support area.

its a BS report. probably a lazy typo? or back in time its been entered into the data base incorrectly. as far as i know porsche north america rely on the shipping port distribution data that was compiled after the cars already had been unloaded after arrival in the USA for these COAs not the factory records held in germany. which by the way would have been held by VW at the karmann factory, not the porsche factory in stuttgart.

Those PCNA reports are notoriously incorrect. I bought one from them in 2015 for my first 914, and then spent a month going around in circles with them before they finally admitted they put the wrong color on the report and sent me a corrected one.
