Engine clean out - internal, 73 1.7 Options

I have been chasing an excess fuel delivery condition for quite a while and may have found my problem. I hope. Bad wire from cylinder head temp connector and ECU.

I have changed oil twice now because of all of the gas that has gotten into the cylinders and the oil sump. Before I do this again, is there something I should do to clean up the gas residue that remains?

Do any of these two make sense?

Remove spark plugs and put a little oil in the cylinders and turn engine over by hand to recoat the walls with good clean oil?
Do nothing and just leave it all open for a few days to air out on its own?

Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I'd think pull plugs, spray with carb cleaner and let sit open for a day or so.. then shoot a little oil in each cylinder and slowly turn by hand. We'll see what others suggest tho..

I'm curious, what were the symptom: a no start, heavy fuel smell, backfiring? Also, you do know about the knob on the ECU right?

I know many use transmission oil as a good engine cleaner but I wouldn't bother cleaning it. Gas is great for cleaning stuff and high quality gas these days has extra lubricants as well. Just change the oil and go. I would rotate the engine some with the ignition off though to get some good oil everywhere. If you are worried I would use a quick change. Get some cheap Walmart 10w30 and run it for a few miles and then switch to the good stuff.
