Need a rear trunk insulation pad for a 74 needs to be perfect. I have an earlier one.

I bought one a few years ago. It is an accurate replacement for the 1975-76 pads, but not accurate for 73 or '74 model years. I used it but have been trying to find a good used one for both of my '74 914s.

Whats the difference between the 73-74 and 75-76 pads?

AFAIK the 73 pad is a thick fibrous coated grey/black premolded pad.

The 74 is a thin black loose vinyl 'bag' containing a foam rubber sheet, not premolded. At least that is the 74 pad in every 74 car I have seen/owned.

Then if there are only the two pads between 74-76, and the AA pad was a faithful repro, any reason not to use it? Would be interested in anyone else with a review of the AA pad linked above.

Both of my 1974 MY 914s, LE produced in February 1974 and my six-conversion produced in November of 1973 use the pre-molded '73 pad and have the 70-73 gas tank. Interestingly, the November 1973 914 had the carbon cannister in the front like a 73 but the LE has it in the back of the engine bay as only found on 1974 models.

I love how Porsche, or Karmann, made running changes during model years.

I have an AA pad and it is pretty good but not as nice as the original one on a friend's PCA Preservation Group winning 1975 914. His 914 has original paint and all original parts, except for the usual, items so I often look to it to see what was "as built". The AA pad I have lacks the grommeted hole left-of-center.

I have an original later-style pad in my BB, looking for one for my project CS. The original pad does not have the grommet like the trunk carpet does.
