It seems like we are past due for doing another 914 World Build-Off Challenge, everyone else is having fun with them.
Frances is in one for SEMA and she is at the end of her build. I went down to help her get as much done as she could before leaving for school. She got the car running by her deadline, but it still isn't done and has a little way to go. It was awesome to get to go down and help but It gave me flashbacks to doing the build-off on my car with Cary. Then I went from Southern California to Monterey Car Week and attended Werks Runion. Once again, there was a build-off challenge. This build-off challenge was among the Porsche Classic dealerships. Spoiler Alert: A 914 won AGAIN! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-43PiRbPyE?si=n2vNgkTmgx1JmdfU So I don't think that all of this is a coincidence. I think we should bring back a 914 World Build-Off Challenge to help people get their cars back on the road. It was extremely fun and I know of a few people who are already down. What do you think? |

I'm in! Well, assuming I can enter a yet-to-be-completed Build-Off Challenge car from ten years ago or a partly completed build that started three years ago and STILL isn't running... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I'm game, but I don't think I qualified last time per the last challenge's rules.

I think the goal is really to help us ALL make progress on our builds so we don't die before they are done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) I think is should be inclusive so that there are different categories and everyone can participate. It is fun do do it as a group. So there could be a get your car running and driving by 9/14/27 buy there can also be some kind of benchmark goal by 9/14/27. If cars on average take 7 years, how can we break that down and help shorten the process so we can actually go enjoy them together.
So maybe someone has just bought a 914 and they want to have the car torn down and all of the body and paint done by 9/14/27. That is probably more doable with fresh energy than the guy who has had the car appart for 5 years and doesn't even remember where all of the parts are. His goal may be restoring all of the parts in that time. I don't know, what all the options might be, but we can all come up with them and then be accountable to our goals publicly and share our work. We don't all have to go full Red Barn level documentation, but it is fun for us all to see the progress we are all making and that has its own momentum that gets you wanting to do more when your in that messy middle and the project is drawing out |

I'm in! I could use any extra motivation in helping me with my build. This is my thought as well. Mine has been off the road for nearly 3 years... need the motivation to get it back on the road! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

I'm game, but I don't think I qualified last time per the last challenge's rules. Then let's make better rules (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Just throwing out thoughts... Original rules: What is the criteria to participate? a. Must include removal and installation, or installation of the engine. b. Must include significant rust/accident repair, and/or paint and bodywork. c. Must include significant interior work. We had 35 participants, which was good, but how many actually finished their goals in the year. Maybe lessen the scope to 'get it driving and doing things'. The most valuable thing we have is time, so maybe award points for time put into the car? Project Revitalization Challenge 2027+ Categories: 1. Stock 2. Upgrades/Modded 3. Bespoke (involves design & fabrication) Rewards every month or 2 for the top 5, in gift certificates. Weather plus the usual life events should limit repeat winners. Annual awards to the most improved, new skill sets, enthusiasm, etc. Open enrollment. |

I’m in! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) 9/14/27 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) that’s way too soon though… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
I am already busting the 7 year average as of last month… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) It’s been pretty hot here (SoCal) and I haven’t done anything on it for a couple months now. I am still motivated though and looking forward to get back into it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) |

Ive got one that would be ideal ...but! Paint is the deal breaker. Painting a car this days is OBSCENELY expensive. & no Im not painting it myself.

And it could have an event deadline. Like the car needs to make it to a 914 event. 0/14/27. Trailers allowed.
