I know the captain will chime in here. Maybe he is right and there is no need for overkill on ignition.

but I wanted to show a picture of my coil from last month.
The long story is that we were at the track, and working on another "issue".

In the process we disconnected the cap from the distributor and left it hanging from the coil wire. This must have caused the coil wire to pull a tiny bit loose inside of the coil. It certainly didn't show, but perhaps the rubber wire end helped mask that it wasn't fully seated inside of the coil.

We started the car and made it through grid and then about 1000 feet down the track, before the ignition just shut off.

Here is what we found....
seems the coil was throwing a pretty good spark.
the coild wire was fully melted down also:

Hey which MSD coil was that? looks like it was throwing one hell of a lightening bolt there. Blaster or Blaster II what? are you running a CD box?
