everything with the car has been going pretty good, however when my car is at idle, it rev's up and down, almost to the point of stalling. since no shops are open tomorrow, i was wondering anyone had some suggestions as to what this might be and if there are some things i could try before taking it to the mechanic?

thanks

What type of fuel intake system are you using?

That condition is called "lean hunt" so you probably have a vacuum leak causing it.
Check first the AAR valve to see if it closes after 5 minutes so NO air is sucking at the hose.
Then check everything else: vacuum hoses, boots, injector seals, TB to plenum gasket, plenum for cracks, etc.
I am assuming the idle has been set when hot to 950 rpms.

i have a 74 2.0, not sure which FI i have, although Bleyseng seemed to be right on, sometimes it idles fine, but usually goes back to the up and down, not matter how long i've been driving it.
