They are a decent piston...But I have seen one set up to 23 grams out of balance....double check them all.Also check the piston ring end gaps. I saw some supplied with rings that had .030 out of the box!

They're Japanese (Nippon Piston Ring) which usually means it's good quality.

Careful. Running these on your 1.7 will mean the heads need to be opened up for the new cylinders. Only the 1.8 and 2.0 heads are direct bolt on with these.

I had the NPR 96mm big bore kit in my 1.7 and yeah I had to get the heads opened up too. Overall the NPR's held up pretty good to the beating I put them through.

Passed 20k on my rebuild recently, also NOS NPRs - 66X96 = 1911cc. I did have them dynamically balanced with the rods, crank, flywheel and pressure plate. Makes for a nice smooth ride.

guys, these are 90mm... stock 1.7... why do I ned to open the heads up for the same size?
I want to use these until I can save the pennys in my piggy bank to get one of jakes kits for my 1.8 Bus engine and make it a 2056... |

They were thinking these were 96es... But some 96es fit in the 1.7 heads. They're really really thin, though, and tend not to be reliable.

yea, I've heard about how bad those were... but I was just afraid that these NPRs used a super thick cylindder that wouldn't fit in the 1.7 head...

The thought of someone actually "building" a 1.7 engine scared me..
Find a free 1.8 and make it a 1911... or find a used bus 2.0 and make it a 2056 with a different cam. B |

I think the wrist pin is different for the 71mm crank/rods... The 1911 works out nice though...

I have a 1.8 already... and when I pull it, the 1.7 will go in until I can turn it into something more respectable... I hadn't thought of 1911cc... I was thinking of buying a kit from Jake and turning the 1.8 to a 2056... but the 1.7 needs to last long enough to get my piggy bank nice a fat! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
also I was thinking if I get the 1.7 running right, then I could be patient and wait for someone to convert to a six and buy their 2.0!!! which would make the jump to 2056 much easier!!! (and cheaper) I'm all about cheaper! |
