(IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif) Hi all
I was reading a VW magazine and want to know are the disk brakes on 914 the same as later VW? The ones I was looking at are drilled for newer wheels. Also what other VW parts will fit on my 71 914. I will be working my 914 this winter and will be replacing things on it. I just sent my daughter off to college in Boston so I am now on a VW budget not a Porsche one. Is there a list I could get to help me on this question. Thanks all Tony |

I think the front calipers are the same as the 411 as are the discs on a 71. Some of the interior switches are VW.
The engine is the same as the VW 411 1.7L. The front tranny seal is off a bug tranny. Some odds and ends here and there are VW but really not a lot of Bug/bus parts fit. Oh yeah, my Nepal Orange paint color is the same as the 76 Bug paint color. Geoff |

Tom Wilson's excellent book "How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen Air-Cooled Engine" has a chapter on engine "Parts Identification & Interchange". You can buy the book at Amazon.

Alfred. Please continue down this path and everything will be just fine. We can even change your user name to "Alfred" if you like.

The ignition switch is a Bug piece, the plastic portion behind the metal key/lock cylinder. These do fail occasionally. Twice on my car. The car would crank in the "start" key position but shutoff when the key returned to the "ignition-on" position. Took me a while to figure it out the first time it happened.

QUOTE(rhodyguy @ Sep 4 2003, 06:10 AM) replies like brad's make me wonder wtf does that mean? kevin he his referring to "Mr. Deutsch". btw. "Deutsch" means German in German. we (Germans) call Germany "Deutschland" and ourselves "Deutsche" (instead of Germans) anywayz, there is some suspicion that "Charles Deutsch" is another alias for Alfred (aka Jeff Krieger) ...
