I managed to break my little aluminum plate(?) that the black plastic cover attaches to under the transmission. I bought a new aluminum plate that I now want to install.
I did get all new "O" rings and such and will be careful to put them back in the way they came out. But... in order to get the black plastic cover off I have to remove the pin that holds the shifting mechanism. I thought this was just a simple "punch out" kind of operation, but now I'm concerned about making sure it goes back exactly the same way it came out. It would be fun to do this only once! Looking for advice. Thanks in advance. |

Um.. Randal. The shift linkage UNBOLTS. There are NO pins that you need to remove. Remove the allen set screw in the front coupler and the rear coupler and the bar slides out and your plastic cover comes off. Oh.. make sure you drain the trann fluid before pulling the shift console down << proper term for the part your talking about.

Oh wait.. Typically you would buy a good used shift console complete. Did you "really" buy a new one that is bare with no shaft thru it or seals in it ??

Just mark the direction of the lever so you don't put it on backwards. It is easy to do. Beware of all the fluid coming out! Make sure you drain the tranny first.

I bought the shift consol from HPP, with all the seals, etc. for $60.00.
So the only things I have to take off are part number 19 (thanks for the picture), which is an Allen screw and course the bolts. Thanks for the advice about the oil. That would have been a surprise! |

Part 19 IS a roll pin. You can do this on the bench when you get it off the car. Take a digital pic of it onec you get it out of the car so you can reference the pic when going back together with the new one.
It comes as NO surprise that Rich wouldnt sell you a good used one COMPLETE that you could bolt into the car in about 10 minutes. What a pain in the ass (not him).. replacing all the parts. B |

Are you saying that Rick put together a complete assembly to make it easier to bolt in?
By assembly I mean the seal at the bottom of the shaft and the poly bushing. Or maybe it comes apart even more than that. |
