I am wondering if anyone has ever done a custom targa trim where the black sail panels and the black vinyl across the top are aluminum (brushed aluminum?) like the old 911 targa's?

If so, got pics?

Scotch tape some aluminum foil to it (dull side out) and take a picture. That should give you an idea of what it might look like. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

If you really want to try it you could do a very cheap prototype by grabbing a roll of "flashing" at HomeDepot for around $10. If you aren't familiar with this it is light-guage sheet aluminum used for joints and corners under roofing matterial. It's light enough to cut with shears or tin-snips. You could put it on just like the vinyl. Give it a brushed look after install by rubbing it with steel wool.

I'm not saying it will look good, but you won't be out much if it doesn't.

The thing that is throwing off the look is the blue you can see on the inside of the driver side panel. Put some foil on that part too and finish out the look. I bet it'll look better.

Nope, still fugly (even the "dull side" picks up too much color from the engine panel. Saaayyyy...what if I did the engine panel...or the whole car??? All I'd need after that is some plutonium and a flux capacitor...

...or I could cover it with some charcoal/smoke panels made from an old iMac for that carbon fiber look...

...and then some lights in the wheel wells, lots of stickers, leds on the wiper jets... yeah....hafta finish the can of Folgers off so I can use it for an exhaust...

I think the targas had stainless, not aluminum. And compound curves (if I'm remembering right)which means metal shaping, no easy form it over your leg stuff.

Hi Seanery,

If you are talking about Billy Lane, I like his creativity, and artictic flare, but he has a long ways to go before he is metal-shaping without bondo-sculpting (been there). Maybe if he slows down on the partying and starts practicing...oh well, he is still young, plenty of time for that later. I think show business can cause arrested development...I doubt Jessie James has advanced his skills much in the last few years. Talk about talent though, he's got it.
