I got a set of mahles on the way (Thanks Joe). Now I need something to go on them. I am thinking about 195/55/15s, not to big not to small. Has anyone run this size and how did they work out. Or any other suggestions for a 1.7 with no flares and I would like to avoid rolling the fenders.

I'd go 195-60-15. You'll find more selection in that size and it's still a smaller diameter than stock. 195-55 or 195-50 is too small IMO.

As Anthony mentions its a smaller diameter than stock. You will be running higher RPMs in each gear. That could be a good thing depending on what your looking for. I think 205/50/15 is the best tire size for stock wheeled 914's. I have run 195/60/15's and liked that size for street driving.

I prefer 195/65. They are nearly identical to the OE 165's so you keep accurate speedo and gearing is unchanged. I believe 205 is too wide for a 5.5" wheel, although many run 205's. A 205 may rub on the outside rear on one side of the other.

i went from a 205-60 to a 205-50 and WOW, what a difference. The Car has some serious pull in every gear. But running higher RPMs on the Highway isn't very fun. If it's a cruiser, stick with the 60's. but if you want to have some fun in the turns, go with the 50's.

OK did some more looking how about Falken Ziex ZE- 512 in 195/60/15 I can get them $46 bucks shipped

195/50 In my dd for 5yrs. Yes high RPM 4,000 for about 40min at a run but hay it's a 914 drive the hell out of her.
