I ment to post about you flat towing...sorry.
That really makes it near impossible for you to do the scenic route. Iffen everyone else decides to go see the sights, i'll take the fwy with ya. You are going to be on a grade 90% of the way there. Hope your vehicle (and your pocketbook) is powerful enough to tow the grades at 70 mph. |

Once you hit the Nevada border, trucks and trailers have the same speedlimit as passenger cars. Toast... you forgot the necessary stop in Beaver Beaver, Utah!!! gas stops are available in Beaver, you just got to watch the fumes! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) |

i am not part of your caravan, but i am an experienced road tripper (especially from denver to LA).
did someone say they needed .02 ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) the so cal group should set their sites on making it to mesquite thursday night. it's just a little bit further than vegas, the rooms are quite a bit cheaper, and it puts you closer to moab the next morning. now back to your reguarly scheduled program (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif) Filthy Beaver. Aaron, there is not a seperate speed limit for trucks or trailers in Ut, Nv, Az. 75 mph, or posted speed limit! |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/chairfall.gif) Nope, and once you are north of Vegas, the speedlimit goes to 75 all the way to the Moab exit. (with a few exceptions, watch your speed when we go through the corner of Arizona and on the down hill section going into St. George Utah) I used to drive this stretch every weekend when I was moving from Denver to Vegas. As Toast said, there is a stretch between Salinas? and Green River that is about 110 miles with no services. Other than that, there is not any problems with finding gas stations... |

Forgot to add: I'll pass on the scenic route. Besides, I've seen dirt before -- it's just so ... dirty. Maybe we 4 (Slits, Toast, AA, Me) should blitz out thursday afternoon, stop in mesquite, head out early AM to make it there roughly at 1? Or we can stay in Vegas, wait for Joe Sharp and Linda, then head out. I wonder how zombified they will be after a full night's driving though.

If you decide to go the Mesquite, look up the Oasis casino. Right off I15 on the Border. Thursday rates I believe are only $29.00 If anyone needs to crash in Vegas, let me know. I have a house that is unoccupied with two airmatresses and lots of rooms. Plenty of parking available behind the gate so your cars would be safe. Let me know... |

But it's also another hour and fifteen closer to UT.
Have we been calculating these drive times based on 65mph or the more realisitic 80-85mph we'll be doing? we need Joe/Linda/Thomas to chime in. Joe is driving or towing? Howard - what works for you? *Nevermind - you are retired. you have nothing going on LOL* (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chairfall.gif) !!! |

The next stop past Misquite is St. George I believe. But the Virgin River is scary to drive through at night if you have never done it before! Besides, for the virgin drivers going through that area, it sure would be a site for them to see in the daytime! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) |

In my expierance, it takes 6 hours to get from Vegas to Grand Junction, Colorado. I would guess that you are looking at 6-7 hours given an average speed of 80mph.
just a guess... |

I just know that i like to get as far as i can on an outbound trip as possible so the next day is easier. plus, this allows the cali group to spend more time driving at nght, and more time driving in the morning (think cooler) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif) maybe i should start a new thread and have it nailed?
