Well... after spending 10 hours driving around Possum Kingdom lake, we figured out that it is not practical to have the MUSR there.
The only hotel big enough to hold the event would be WAY to expensive for us. And there are only 2 twisty roads, one 5 miles long, and one 7 miles long. Both run by the lake shore and all the houses on it, and neither actually goes anywhere that we would want to go. We also checked out the hotels/motels in Graham, and they are just too small. We even drove to the "state park" at PK, which was a real waste. 30 minutes to get there, and all of the traveling was out in the middle of nowhere. Then you get there and it costs 4 bucks per person to get in. The only bright side was that we saw a bunch of Deer, a few wild turkeys, a roadrunner (the bird, not the car) and a Coyote. Any ideas on where to go? |

[/quote] Mid US Ramble Ramble being a term coined by 914 Rennlist gurus John D and Ed V for 1st East Coast Ramble and then we in the middle needed a location suited to the rest of the nation, between the East and West Coast area jumped on the Mid US Ramble idea. It was promoted by Chuxter and Alan B there in the middle Texas region and stills works to get many together for this annual event. Lately it has become more regional as to where the larger number of 914's may be, like Texas. I for one would like to see it go back to a roving ramble so that I could make it to one without being too tired once I got there to enjoy the event. I can imagine most all mid region 914 owners desire is to reach these events driving their average running 914. SIGH! There was another group earlier that flowed in from Middle TN all the way over to the Dallas region and they called it something different. Seems like it was in the Little Rock AR area but that was before Internet so I am not certain. That one involved those who make specialty 914 products to sell to other 914 owners as well as dissing tricking out the 914's they owned. Some were Perry Kiehl, Rich Johnson and Brad Roberts. After the MUSR was coined they sort of drifted into the background but still attend the MUSR events as longtime 914 owners do. Brad Roberts is still into 914's even more as we all can see. Those others dried up mostly in the list participation chit chat for reasons of their own. Hope that is all correct as I attempt to erase the confused term from your post. MikeCool |

At this time, we are looking at three possible locations.
1. Austin, TX. Tony Chavez is looking at locations there. 2. San Antonio, TX. Mike Allen and I have been discussing some locations there. 3. Fort Smith, Arkansas. This one will be easy. I have tours already planned for Magazine Mountain, the local winery, the hotel and dinner locations. I am able to copy a tour that my parents ran in Fort Smith for the Vintage Chevy club. With some tweaking, it would work fine for the MUSR. Anyway we look at this, we probably won't have an Autocross. Unless the local region can supply us with equipment and assistance, it's a no-go. Just to whet your appetite, I have some event teasers for you. Thursday night I am planning a pizza party and liar's contest at the hotel. Liar's contest. Each entrant tells the contest organizer if he/she is going to tell a lie or the truth. Then they get up and tell the story to the whole room. After they are done, the audience votes on if they are lying or telling the truth. The one who gets the most votes that are opposite what they told the organizer wins. Bonus points awarded if the story is about a 914. For Friday night, we will have the Rally coming back from dinner. It will be a hare and hound rally in the dark. I get to be the hare. I take off from the resturant, with the hotel as the destination. At every intersection, I drive 50 yards down the road, then I setup a cynalumid light on a stick next to the road. You have to find the correct road. If you don't see the little green light in the first 50 yards ,then you have to turn around and try another road. The team with the mileage closest to my car wins. Only rule is... no backing up. That would be cheating (914 odometers wind back when the car is in reverse), and also unsafe. I am also considering/planning a replacement for an AX. It would be a very short AX done with a 2 person team. Just a 3 cone slalom, a turn a couple of offset gates, another turn and a finish line. But the driver is blindfolded and the passenger has to tell them how to get through the course. (This is perfect for married couples. We all know that the wife always tells the husband where to go anyway). Let me know what y'all think about the location and ideas for the event! |

When is this looking like it may happen? I need to check vacation at work. I could moderate the liars deal if I can get off. Only because once back when I was young I wnet to the National Liars Convention In Geila Bend AZ. All the great ones were there so I know some of the inside scoop as how to tell a fib from a lie. Did you know some times its not actually lieing to you, its just bullshittn ya. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
