I'm not sure I'll be there with a 914 after all. Dang suspension still wants to fall off- I found a new crack in the previos fabbed up repair. Last night I cleaned/ gapped my spark plugs (mix is too rich), cleaned idle jets and reset carbs trying to resolve the miss that began yesterday, then got up at 5:30 this morning to get the car ready - back on the ground with tires and filters- to go back for more welding. The car ran so poorly I decided to leave it at home. I've got to resolve this before it causes damage. I'm guessing I gotta re-do my valve adjustment from the (still leaking) PR tube seal replacement - although I really think the valves are set right, I need to be certain. Maybe it is the stinkin spark plug wires I have. They were the good ones from PP, but the connection to the plug has always been a problem area. Anyway, I hope I can heal the engine problems. Even if I did botch up thevalve adjust, I've only driven 20 miles since the PR tube experience. I may need you to bring that welder, Barry!
At any rate, I guess the wrost part would be PARKING AT THE BOTTOM AT AIR-COOLED HEAVEN if I have to bring a different car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I bet with all of us at andretti we could get it welded up and get it running great. Like he said, come with or without 914. If you want, you could drive our 924. My mom was originaly going to drive it, but decided to stay home. It is about 30 minutes away from andretti.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I should take you up on that offer, but my 914 will make it! If I have to bring my other car, the TOD will still be fun- its a BMW 3 series- but I've got new plug wires and plugs in the 914 now. We'll see how it runs tomorrow but I'm guessing there is a valve adjust coming tomorrow before the carb re-balence tomorrow night. I've got my welding guy lined up to try again on the rear suspensiom tuesday. I guess a proper repair is going to be another motivator, besides valve guides, to drop the motor around thanksgiving and go buy a welder for while the heads are away... the shirts look great! |
